And yes, ordinances. My township has their zoning rules and ordinances right on their website.

My parents doesnt have a website.....My mom and step dad love my chickens and I wanted to surprise them and get them some since they talk about getting some but they haven't yet. They live near Raystown Lake. I remember my dad saying we couldn't have anything where we lived growing up. But I don't know if this is true or not. Since sometimes the will tell you anything when you are little ! :)

my dough is kneading for the second time itilian herb and cheese bread tonite with spaghetti and meatballs the bread smells amazing and hasnt started nbaking yet!!!! zelienople is about 100 miles south of erie or 30 miles north of pgh. off interstate 79
Yummy... Did I miss dinner?
I was just looking at chicks on Cackle. I sooooo want to order something with fuzzy feet and poofie butts. Cochins and Brahmas etc. I am determined to wait till warmer weather when we get the run extended and the garden worked out though. I WILL have some will power. I WILL NOT cave and order chicks. Though that box of peeping fluffy cuteness is so irresistible ^_^
Cackle? Is that a hatchery?
My husband called on his way to work because he was at a stop light and saw a transformer blow! This area is just not equipped for this kind of cold.
We heard one pop here too, and the electricity stammered. Spooky!
This is also our plan! I'm keeping the kids out of school and headed to Harrisburg! :weee I'm extremely worried about my birds even with all the preparation that was done....my poor dog who NEVER comes in....is in the house. She is a panting bundle of nerves, poor thing. We picked her up lots of stuff to chew on while we were at the Mill getting straw today and you would think she is on death row the way she is behaving.
Blarney, is this your goat! It's such an adorable picture!

I would totally do the same thing. I just told my hubby I'm glad we don't have chickens yet, it's just so cold!
welcome ....from Skippack, Montgomery County
Hello! Bucks county near Mont. Co. Welcome! :welcome

Awesome! Although...I was looking for puppies in that pic, took me a minute. Good looking chooks ya got there, I love that lacing! Anne, do you mean in my Avatar? That was a Kidd we 'hatched' this summer, we sold him. Quite the looker though.

this information on Mareks............well it has made me decide to ditch the mealworm container...

just doesn't seem worth it and it has taken a long long time and all I have are beetles.......

If this occurs in dust................I wonder if any dust is an issue.

If that is the case...........well not sure if there is an action plan other than

cleaning out the coop more frequently.............all the bedding.

I don't do all the bedding out in the winter............

In the summer I was doing that and using a vinegar water spray mix on the floor roosts.......

No matter what we do...........there will always be diseases around for humans and animals in the world

we just have to make reasonable and informed decisions.

so........I am ditching the meal worms for now........there are enough other food options.
not trying to sway anyone one way or another....by all means if you feel okay with it then do so...but I am just openly looking at things..maybe I shouldn't...just saw some talking about this subject and now I seem to be jumping into it...a lot of people raise these critters and never have an issue. Just trying to learn as much about it as possible..not trying to scare or disturb anyone away from doing what they feel is okay and enjoy.

and in layman's terms? HA! I will re-read and read that pdf in the morning if the kids go to school.. Not sure on school, 2hr delay so far

night y'all
hey,,no problem..understand completely..I had to take a break..was on Pinterest ...

..heehee...so, in layman's terms..we need to know what type of surface the cell has:is it smooth, rigid?..then the amount of **trehalose is in the cytoplasm?..if there is NOT a lot, well then it would seem the survival rate would be greater. **Has to do with proteins/fats and degradation when freezing..if i am reading it correctly..if not well, then whatever..

..Talk to you tomorrow about it if I can see straight...enjoy the delay tomorrow....gonna be cccoolldd!!!

LMP, here are some pics that LadyBehir was kind enough to post.

Ok, I need to get out there and check my back coop. The wind is howling and I'm sure it's freezing, but I'll never get to sleep if I don't check...
I can't access the pics...I guess you have to have a FB account..and NO i do not...this keeps me busy enough..then I had to go and get into the whole Pinterest thing...

...*DaughterS: it will be fun mom, come on get on...
*ME: I don't know, what do you do with it?..
DaughterS:well, you find cool ideas and just "pin" it so you can access it whenever you want..and we can see what each other has pinned..it will be fun"....
ME: it is 3 in the morning, how did I let her talk me into this craziness..?..when am i ever really going to DO ANY of this??!!....

Thanks for thinking of me though Blarney...how are the birds?...
I just asked the Hubby if I should check on mine..."do what you want to do".."what are you gonna do if they are froze anyhow?".....nice...

Well, at 0115 here it was -12*F degrees outside and it is 14* F in the coop according to the remote temp gauges... birds are all sound asleep on their roosts. A year or so ago we got a Uniden wireless camera system (nanny cam thing) and we set it up in the coop with the monitor on our headboard so if we hear squawking we can check the camera. It was like $150 on sale at Walmart an has been worth it's weight in gold for our piece of mind many times.
Brittany it is a good thing DH didn't see your pic of the birds in your garage or he probably would have been doing the same thing! He does not like this cold weather on them, especially the broody and her chicks....
