I left the kids out around 5 and I had to chase them back in tonight

..they werent ready to get locked up again...I finally can see grass...

I'm green with envy...I still have a foot of snow/ice/slush....my crew has made a nasty mess of the 10' of pen thats under the tarp....1/3 poo, 1/3 mud,1/3 spent pine shavings...today is definitely a clean the coop day....

Not sure of the sex, or even the breed -- note to self: when putting eggs into lockdown, orient them so their numbers show from the window!

I had no hope of these hatching. The only reason I didn't toss them when I moved them off the turner was pure laziness (well, I guess a tiny glimmer of hope, but wasn't going to be disappointed with complete failure). The next batch also was in the incubator during the power failure, but they were in there less than 2 days before the power outage started. I had a bit more hope for them, but expect them to be delayed also. Normally, they'd be scheduled to go into lockdown tomorrow, but I might give them an extra day or 2 on the turner given my experience with this batch. Any opinions on a hatch you expect to be delayed, better to turn an extra day or or not?

When I last checked, Hillary was drapped over another egg with a chick trying to hatch. She was peeping a lot, I think trying to encourage the next one to make it out.

Mine from the staggered hatch I mentioned above all hatched late. Batch 1 was 6 days, batch 2 was 4-5 days, batch 3 was 2-5 days late. Never give up on them. I had a batch hatch a whole week late last winter. I did keep turning mine until I saw membranes pull tight & chickies poking at the air cell.

For those in the SE....I visited the West Chester Agway....the prices were lower than where I usually get feed and the same as TSC or Embreeville Mill(B)...only difference is that the bags are heavy paper not the normal plastic...

Yesterday was cleaning day here. Cleaned the coop & rearranged roosts, nests & feeding stations. Think they are much happier now. Definitely looks & smells better out there. Some of my critters are in the garage either due to the cold or lack of pens because of the move, so that got cleaned yesterday too. Definitely looks & smells better out there!

I've been going to WC Agway out of convenience, closest place to buy feed. Their selection of other supplies really stinks, so I'm left to buy feeders etc online. I watch for free ahipping sales from Blains and get great deals on pine & treats. So far the Agway all grain feed is ok, but I just got a huge bag of their catfood and my cats are snubbing it... Where is nearest TSC? I will stop up in Poconos when I visit Mom, but never get up in winter, would love to find one closer.

I have had some terrible luck lately with owls and hawks. Is anyone hatching Australorps? I would be willing to pick up or even get pullets. I will be checking the classifieds, too, but I would like some eggs again this summer! Thanks!

It's been a tough winter, hasn't it? My heated waterers don't function just the best at sub zero. Too cold to gather eggs for the incubator and outside brooders (IMO).
Does anyone have some nice Ameraucana pullets/hens they would part with? I also need a Breda roo. I'm looking for a new home for 4 Appenzeller Barthener hens and one AB roo. I hope I can say that on here.
