Hey everyone! Cambria County here. I'm new to all this and getting my first chicks soon. Don't suppose any of you nearby are looking to sell some babies are you?

Glad you joined us here Auroradream!
You could find and local feed stores and call them. Most local feed stores sell chicks in the spring, though some not this early. Some will even special order what you want.

Thanks! I did call the local feed stores but I'm kinda stuck with either Cresson feed Mill or Altoona tractor supply. Cresson feed mill said something about not getting chicks until May unless I want to special order but I'd have to order 25. WAY too many lol. Tractor supply workers have NO clue what's going on but the Facebook page said sometime around the end of February but that it will vary by store lol. I'm just getting excited and it's getting harder to wait lol. I'm getting 4 chicks from Nittany wyandottes in the next week or two but other than that, I'm still looking.

This is definitely the place to feed your addiction. If they make you order 25, you'd be better off ordering direct, less handling and probably a better price. If I were you, I'd research what breeds I wanted and figure out how many, then find a reputable hatchery with those breeds available (make sure they actually have them, lots of places are sold out of many of their breeds) and order 25 chicks. If you don't want that many, make up the extra with red sex links pullets and put them up for sale of Craigslist. You can sell them any stage of growth to get at least most of your money from the chicks and feed back.

Or, put an ad on CL now, asking for people interested in splitting an order of chicks. There are lots of people in your position, you just need to find them. Might even be one or 2 lurking here ;)

I'm planning to hatch a lot of chicks this spring, with the express purpose of selling them to people like you in this area who want a few chickens. I'm working on several breeds, but leaning toward the autosexing breeds (like sex links, you can sex them at birth, so I can reliably sell pullet chicks).

Welcome... there are a few of us in your area depending on what part of CC you are in... MButerbaugh is in the Cherry Tree area, and I am 20 mins further north of her in Indiana County. I haven't seen her on the boards recently though... she had Easter eggers last year, I don't know if she has any chicks this spring or not.

Do you have specific requirements from the birds you are looking for? Do you want large birds who can provide meat also? Banty birds who will be good in a small space... really calm breeds because kids are involved? Are you looking for eggers who produce year around because you want to sell eggs or are you just looking to get a backyard flock for personal enjoyment and a few eggs?

Edit to add... the TSC in Punxsy is getting their chicks on 2/24... tubs were set up last night getting warm when we were there for other supplies.

we're in the Patton/st Lawrence area. We REALLY want some easter eggers. I was supposed to get some off of a guy in tyrone but he emailed me and said his hens had stopped laying for some reason and he had nothing to put in the incubator. We're looking for large fowl that produce large eggs. We eat a lot of them lol and any extra we may sell or most likely give to family and friends. I don't want white eggs (call me shallow lol) but I want anything from cream colored to chocolate brown and blue/green. We do have two kids, 7 and 8 years old and 3 dogs so we need docile breeds. We have 1.3 acres and state game lands behind us so I plan to free range them. My husband prefers duel purpose birds so they can be for meat and eggs but either type will work. I have a serious problem with killing animals (I cried over a dead squirrel and I hate those things!). Breeds we really like are ameraucanas, easter eggers, welsummers, marans, and barred rocks but I'm sure there's more out there that we don't know about yet.

Howdy From Chester Co ! What chicks are you getting/looking for...probably a lot of folk around you with eggs in the baters

I swear our vehicles are the single most bank account draining thing we own,,,we repair them more often than our house, and then just normal operating cost.

Unfortunately with critters we need to keep bigger vehicles on the road, a small compact car just will not do...

I also had a major breakdown in the house,,,,,but no where near as costly as the vehicle..

Hi! I'm already signed up for 4 wyandottes but I'm looking for easter eggers, ameraucanas, barred rocks, welsummers, marans, or any large breed that lays a lot of large eggs, that free ranges well, and is docile enough to be handled (got kids lol)
