Hey folks:

In my neck of the woods, the hawks have just started to migrate....four or five have flown over and two have flown in....both were chased off by me....one small one and a red-tail....til the tree canopy sets be aware.....my two cents....

I seen one today also, they are pretty but I still do not want them.

I seen 2 red tail hawks flying around today when I was driving. They were flying very low, not too much higher than my SUV. I haven't seen any in my yard yet. I do have alot of crows in my backyard.

I'm looking for a bantam cochin hen. Show quality would be awesome but she doesn't have to be. If any of you have or know anyone with one, please PM me. Looking for one about a year old, already laying. If you have a hen that's annoyingly broody, I'll take her. I had big plans for my bantam cochin to raise me lots of babies this year, but she isn't here anymore.

yes !!!duck eggs are that good, and no you do not need a pond,,,I have a turtle sandbox filled with water...


2 pen's are done and seperated so in 2 weeks I should have pure eggs for

white bresse (I have issues with this pen)
bantam cochin

and have I mentioned how much I hate spring cleaning...

ok question for the purist here, but remember I breed for meat not show....

that pen of white bresse has three rooster and 6 hens, i plan on taking 1 of the roosters out of there tomorrow but which one
1 has off color legs
1 has all the right sop, but is a real wuss, even the hens push him around
1 has it all and is top roo of the three except..........my shoe and his body has been occupying the same space here lately,

would those off color legs really matter that much?

We stopped at TSC on the way to the grocery store. Yes, this was a planned purchase. Dewey and I have been talking about getting some Khakis for the eggs. I really miss the eggs... He said we could get a couple for that reason only. I knew he missed his ducks anyways. Here's the new additions and the only live purchase I will be making from TSC this year. I have done really well all season, so far, but those ducklings I couldn't resist. I have a 10-12 x 20' concrete dog kennel attached to my garage I will turn back into the duck pen. I had my 4 Khakis from last year in there before I decided no more ducks. I am pretty darn sure I have 5 girls and 1 boy. Last year I picked all light ones and all were females. I hope I have 100% accuracy again this year! Oh! It's my ducklings holding the new ducklings! Poor Devon was having issues with his. It kept trying to run up over his back.

So adorable! Are the eggs really that good? This may sound really stupid, but I've always said no to ducks because we don't have a pond, and I just assumed I needed one. Are they harder than chickens?

Ducks are often easier than chickens. Require smaller shelters, more weather resistant, less susceptible to disease...but, they love to make wet messes & turn puddles into swamps. If you have good drainage they are fine. I only have kid's wading pools for mine & they do fine there too. Main difference: ducks need water deep enough to dunk their heads (even if it's just a gallon bucket) in order to clean their nasal passages. Chickens can use shallow waterers or nipple waterers.
