But I have not ever had one burst...I'm not saying it isn't possible, but I haven't seen it myself. If it is possible at all I would think it would be an associated problem to impaction more than a stand alone problem of just over stuffing themselves.

Sorry to hear you lost one of your hens... and has to be difficult not knowing for sure. Hopefully you will be able to figure out the best answer soon, but I can't offer any advice on them since I don't have any water fowl.

I can understand the new pen for the meaties.... we kept ours in a separated half of the coop last year and they are a mess! Not even going to put them in the coop area this year. We had a canvas top made for one of our trailers last summer for protecting loads from weather and wind during transport... But I told DH (and he readily agreed!) that the wagon would make a good chicken tractor for the meaties. So in another week or so they will be getting put into the trailer (I have a couple of dog kennels to use for fencing a 20x20 pen around it) and it will become the meatie tractor. We can hook onto it and move it every week or so to a new piece of yard so they have fresh grass and the mess can wash into the yard with the rain.

Thanks! I would have definitely freaked out if I saw a chicken waddling around like that. My theory has been wait and observe, most things will either fix themselves or become worse signaling a need for intervention.

Case in point: my leghorn the other day was eating yogurt mash the other day and she got a funny look on her face and had her beak open like she was choking (of course another chicken was right there to take a test peck at her gaping mouth :rolleyes: ) after a couple seconds, she let out a big sneeze and resumed normal chickeny behavior. Silly girl! I guess it was the 'ah' before the 'choo'. :lol:
 
Hello all,

We just moved into York County, PA so I wanted to get on to say hello. but also a couple nights ago we had an attack and lost 8 of our 10 light Brahma's. We were hoping to replace them but would like to take a try at hatching some, so if anyone has some light Brahma hatching eggs within an hour(two if you would be willing to meet half way, I would be interested. or if you would ship them that would be great as well. any help is appreciated, thank you.

I am pretty sure Sally Sunshine still does them. She is nearby you too.
 
Thank you for the welcome and I guess it doesn't hurt to ask but everything I could tell from her web page it appears she only has more "exotic" colors.

Give everyone a little time, I'm guessing someone here has what you want ( and a bunch of breeds you didn't know you want) just can't remember who has what
 
Meat bird questions:
When can you take them off the heat lamp?
How much space to they need?
Do you need a roost or do they sleep on the ground?
Any tips to help my first attempt at meat birds?

After pulling the latest chicks from the incubator, I now have a total of 54 chicks hatched this week!
2 - Silkies
8 - Bredas
7 - New Hampshires
10 - Black/Blue Copper Marans
7 - Welsummers
20 - Mixed breeds

Is this too many? Am I out of control? Will I stop? (NO to the last one, if not the first 2)
