Candled my three duck eggs (day 11 today), and they are all moving so excited now one is moving like crazy, and the other two are moving every now and again i candled a few of my chicken eggs day 4)and im happy to say i have about 5 silkie eggs and of the two i candled they are both growing i didnt candle all 48 eggs, but of the ones i did candle (about 20 )2 or 3 are in fertile one had the ring of death :/ and all the rest are growing so excited

Today is lockdown for my eggs in the incubator!! I hope next week I will be posting pictures of fluffy butts

Last time I candled them they were moving around like crazy. I didn't candle them all because I didn't want to handle them all and some were too dark to see anything.

We're in the very bottom of Lackawanna county (Madison Township near Moscow) but used to live near the upper region of the county. It's actually colder where we are now, at higher elevation. I only recently got a flock going myself. We've got six different cold-hardy breeds and they've done well for two winters now.

I am in the Roaring brook twp area. we're neighbors. the only one that I know for sure as cod hardy is the buff. we shall see.

Hi and welcome from cambria County! I'm also a chicken newbie and Hubby and I were concerned about the cold too. We're still building our coop but I think we may have gone way overboard with insulating and protecting their coop lol. Especially since our babies are 7 weeks old now. They've been outside in the garage for a week now with no heat at night and are perfectly fine and happy. Every step of the way is a learning experience but it's so much fun!

my understanding is that if you pick cold hardy breeds of chickens.........ones that are known to manage in our area.................then actually the heat of summer is harder for them than the cold. they just need dry and wind protection in the winter and good food and water...................I worried over this harsh winter and they did fine!

Check out mypetchickens....you can filter breeds by cold hardy and bears confinement....a good start when researching breeds...(imho)

Hey guys! Set a half dozen banty cochin eggs today .

I tried to have my hen and rooster that were having problems mingle again. I thought the ice was broken. The rooster had found a treat and the girls ran over. She ate it and then attacked him. What a woman. Now the pair is confined in the timeout cage with another attempt at introduction again. Third time's a charm . Maybe.

I'd like to add that I observed the body language thoroughly, and they're BOTH the agressor.
