I think I've officially gone around the bend...the 3 yo talked me into getting him khaki campbell ducklings. Rather than put them down in the basement in the brooder....I have them in a bucket...in the kitchen. And rather than shavings....I'm using towels. Yes towels...and each day we completely clean the bucket and wash the towels....

They always blame the kids. Truth is, deep down you wanted them too, am I right? Duckling have to be twice as cute as other babies so people will put up with their messiness. At least that's my theory.

Glad to help. I hope the egg that is viable hatches out mottled. Then you know the black one is split for mottled and you should hatch more of them!  Plus, mottled is cool.

Thanks! I hope so too! We got this pair at a swap in Fayette county, and we also bought a mottled pullet there that I planned to breed to the rooster. After we bought her we saw that the rooster that was in the cage with her was sick so we gave her back immediately. She was pretty, I wish we could have gotten her. Mottled pullets aren't really that easy to find.

I'll remember that. I candled them last night and most all have veins showing clearly.

And yesterday's hatch was 6 for 6!

None of the silkie eggs developed at all, but every egg that was not clear made it all the way out. I never had such a good percentage. I really hate to see chicks not make it out of the egg after developing all the way. If it never developed at all, that seems more ok to me.

Our silkies have been very disappointing this year, less than 10% develop at all. I wonder if the male is too old, some of the hens have ceased laying and are just enjoying their golden years. Maybe the roo is not up to the job anymore. We have a younger male, but he's pure evil most the time and even getting the eggs out of the cage can be a challenge. Silkie roos perplex me, some are as nice as can be, others seem to half vulture or something and try to draw blood at every turn. We have one of each, I want to breed from the nice one.

Since those are pharoah colored, you will be able to sex them in about a week. Males will have tan chests. Females will have tan with dark speckles.

oh MY Goodness! They're awesome! Sooooo pretty. So this morning I heard a turkey gobbling while doing my chores, I was so excited, grabbed a jacket, coffee and binoculars. DS then informs me... 'mom, ya know it's turkey season, right?' Nope no turkeys out there, pretty sure it was a hunter calling them.

So this morning I heard a turkey gobbling while doing my chores, I was so excited, grabbed a jacket, coffee and binoculars. DS then informs me... 'mom, ya know it's turkey season, right?' Nope no turkeys out there, pretty sure it was a hunter calling them.

My turkeys were calling to the wild turkeys this week and they were answering them. The wild turkeys were in the neighbors yard.. I keep my turkeys in the run so they don't wander off with the wild turkeys and so no crazy hunter hunts them.

Rant of the day!
I had to run to the store and grab something for dinner since I forgot to take something out of the freezer. I stopped off at taco bell to grab some lunch before I went to the store. I'm in line behind this guy and he took 10 minutes to order. First he orders meal starter or what ever its called. 10 burritos, hard and/or soft tacos any amount you wanted that came to 10 for $10.99.He went on to order his amount of burritos and tacos. He then says I want 2 of the tacos to be the doritos tacos, and the other 2 to be steak and 2 others to be chicken. The cashier says ok but that will be extra. The guy says ok. The cashier reads everything back and then says the amount and the guy says no he didn't want that. The cashier has to void everything.

The guy then goes and points to a picture of the chilli cheese burrito and says I want 2 of those. The cashier rings that up. Then the guy says I want 1 to be steak and the other to be chicken and both without chili. The cashier said I can do that but it will be extra. The guy says ok and pays for the 2 burritos. After he pays he says no I don't want them and he wants a refund. The cashier gives the man his money back and cancelled the order.

The man then wants to order the quesadilla meal with the taco and drink. Meanwhile people are getting ****** and leaving the taco bell. This time he doesn't change anything and pays for the meal. The cashier hands the man his change all the receipt for the meal and the cancelled meal. The man walks away leaving his wife to pick up the meal. She picks up the meal and wants to know where her 2 burritos are. The guy that puts up the order doesn't know about the burritos and said there are no burritos ordered. The woman says here's my receipt I want my burritos. The cashier comes over and explans to the guy what happens and the woman then takes the food and sits down to eat. OMG some people. I don't know if this couple was trying to run a scam on taco bell and the cashier but the cashier didn't fall for it. I felt bad for the cashier, he was trying to as nice as possible.

By the time I got to the cashier I forgot what I wanted lol.
