Separate her where she can see the others if you can. Give her electrolytes or spotrs drink with brown sugar added & antibiotics if she has any visible wounds. The electrolytes & sugar will help with shock. The antibiotics to ward off infection. If she pulls thru the next 24 hours then you only have to worry about infection after that.

I gave her Gatorade. The chicken hasn't moved all day and I give it water by dipping the beak in the Gatorade, she drinks it, then I lift her head up and she swallows. Definitely an interesting process... If the chicken doesn't die, I will start antibiotics, which I have in hand but have never used. Would it be safe to put it in the water that all the chickens use?
 
I've had chickens for over a year and have never had fox problems. I just found out that the lady with a huge flock of guineas about 600 meters down got rid of her whole flock recently, which were always easy pickings since they were a huge free range flock. The fox probably decided to move on up to my area to mess with my chickens, now I gotta kill that SOB. For now, chickens are staying in the run full time
 
Cubalaya grade 4 months old, large fowl.


Bantam project pullet, her tail is still growing in from being feather pecked. She is 4 months old.




Another bantam project pullet, a full sister to the wheaten one, imagine that! 3 months old.


He is from a bantam Cubalaya project, currently he is being considered for a bantam Satsumadori project. 4 months old.


Potential large fowl Lemon Blue Cubalaya coming up. 2 1/2 months old.

My husband and I were thinking about going up to the Green Dragon next weekend for the poultry auction. Can you all give me the lowdown about it? How does it work? How many birds are usually there? Do they tend to be healthy? Do you typically isolate them from the rest of your flock and if so, for how long? Thank you!

I would love to know the same thing! I never been to a poultry auction before, but I definitely want to go soon!

Can we go over these food terms? Scratch, mash, pellets, layer feed, oyster shells, etc... If I give my chooks layer feed, should I still include oyster shell? I'm still working on my original 50# bag of unmedicated chick food. My girls are about 12 weeks old now.

Can you usually tell the ladies and the gents apart at this age? They all look like ladies to me, but I know it is still a bit early. They are all different breeds, so I'm sure that makes a difference on how fast they develop.

Be careful with the grit....I lost a bird to an infected crop....the vet tech asked if I gave her grit....if your girls free range they will get all they need with out suplement....my two cents....
