Fayetteville PA is a newbie looking for the perfect coop for 7 chicks....the Bremerton Coop from Urban Chicken site has been ordered, but now delayed. Can one be made for $200-300???? Suggestions welcome. We have been all over the map checking here and most everywhere else with pics and posts. Some say 4x4 with a yard, while others say minimum 6x8.
Very confused, but anxious!?
Thanks

I like to create a "hoop house" as cheap and useful housing. I think during the coldest part of the winter you might want to add a more sturdy, draft proof structure, leaving the hoop house as the perfect run for them. Search for it on this site, youtube and/or an internet search engine.

I have seen these hoop houses used year round with just stacking straw bales around it for winter use.

I am thinking about trying the straw bale stack ,, after all straw is readily available for me....my only concern is mice and rats.

So far, I am so stinkin' grateful for the straw! I am using it inside both turkey pens, and under the tarped area outside of the BBW pen. They don't go inside, and were laying on the wet ground. And the chicken's nest boxes. OH!! I am so in love with it there!!

Thank you! No one seems to have any around here! I guess the people that need it, grow it themselves like you.

Takes a good bit of acreage to grow the wheat and barley that we get the straw from, and also the equipment to make those bales is not an everyday thing, well it is in my neck of the woods, but not where you are.

I know of a few Amish and Mennonite places outside of Lewistown that would have straw, how far of a trip would that be for you...
Mostly in the Milroy area.

OK, this is built as a hog shelter but I wonder if my ducks would use it, I really need o get them something instead of them just going under the wagon.

Actually, a few years ago there was a people house up the road from me made of straw. I think they used it for a few years until their other house was finished, or as a demonstration. Don't know if it's still there.

Let the three little pig jokes begin.

Happy Birthday!!! Tonight is Montgomery County's 4 H poultry club meeting, so we will not be there either :(

Blarney, please let me know when the next one is, I would love to attend!

Any Eastern PA people who would be interested in a free Silkie Roo? We can't keep because of the crowing.  :(  We are in Morrisville, PA.  He's the sweetest roo and likes to be held.

Approx. 3 months old, white.

If not, the breeder will take him back.  We just want to send him somewhere he will be treated well.
Thanks in advance!
Dan

Glad to see another Bucks County Resident with poultry! :thumbsup

Good morning folks!

Well, I am in 'search mode' today....  I have 2 more hens who have gone broody, actually, they just gave up their last broods 5 weeks ago, they are 2 of the 'trio' who raised their chicks together in March....
anyway, I am in search of some White Leghorn hatching eggs.  I have a good friend who was unable to find replacements for his aging flock this spring, and he really liked his WLHs.  I figure it is a win/win... .my hen gets to hatch out and raise some babies, we get to enjoy watching her for a few weeks and I get to hand over the chicks to him to finish raising when the broody is done!

So anyone have any older stock they have had for a while with known decent health and laying ability? I know I can order 'hatchery eggs' but getting from a known healthy flock is definitely my preference.... and heritage or long established flock is great!

If you have the right eggs, or know someone who does please get in touch with me!

Now that's being neighborly!

I live in Quakertown Pa. I am going to have some chicks for sale soon. first year raising chicks! [How do you do all of those cool chicken enjos sorry I spelled it wrong]

Yay! Another Bucks County Chicken keeper! Love the Qmart....

My coop was made for probably less than $100. It is only 4x4 and I have 5 chickens. Even though they are not full grown yet, they only sleep in the coop and free range most of the day.

What if they just followed you home? Could you keep them then?

Lol. Being "neighborly" again?
