Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I got lettuce and goat milk...but live pretty far from ya. My garden fence also blew down, although the chooks have not gotten at it yet.. need to fix that today.

Son left 2 cages open last night and I lost some pretty expensive birds. I am unbelievably bummed, mostly because a successful predator will always come back. Feeling pretty discouraged today.

I hear you B. I let my young chooks free range with the big girls today....I checked on them after 1.5 hrs and saw only one little one....then found two more, then three under the coop...the big folk were just hanging out in the middle of the yard.....missing was one of my baby CCL girls....had to go work...and when I returned she was still MIA....walked my yard and no signs/ no chirps...walked behind my property and on the other side of the rail road tracks was a pair of Red Tail hawks....

I am assuming she got separated and the hawks got her...

wait-------for healthy eating-------------chemical free stuff

you have to define what type of chemicals are a problem

because everything is made of chemicals.............H20 is water.............we are carbon based............etc

so which chemicals are ok

and which are pesticides etc..........

plain ole water cannot be banned because its h2o

but veggies and fruits tainted with tons of pesticides or
milk with hormones
or meat with tons of anibiotics................I can see the problems here..............

salt is chemical............yet more naturally occurring..............

this is a worthwhile pursuit................I sure hope you post about how you are doing this............what meals you come up with!

Arent we all trying to garden and eat a bit healthier , locally grown stuff?

I still like cake and cookies etc..............but I am trying to up the good stuff and decrease the not good for me stuff.

My big mouth got me in doo-doo again.

You see I have 2 brothers who I am always preaching to about what they eat, literally they live on frozen dinners, I think that is the only aisle they can find in the store.

Well they thru it all back at me and challenged me to eat nothing but what I grow or raise for the entire month of June,,,, when it comes to the brothers, I can not back down from a challenge, and if I do this, they are gonna take my place in the tobacco field this year.

Help...
The garden is not gonna be producing much till then, and I cannot live on chicken alone....I did mention to them that I will not give up my morning coffee, they made an exception for that only since they know me, without coffee

I can only buy things that I can guarantee chemical free since that is what I preach to them all the time.

I made this bet on memorial day, and now that I have had time to think about it, this could be harder than thought, even my water is not chemical free, you can smell the chlorine in it.

Blarney
That would be quite a drive for a salad.

Makes me wonder just how much planning went into the food storage year's ago....

LMP
I know you have a veggy and fruit based diet, how do you manage to find chemical free, naturally produced.?

It does not help being farm based, that just makes me realize that just because the tag say's it is all natural, I know that it may not be.......did you know that all fruit that passes thru any airport is sprayed, even those called organic............

...hey, I do it ALL the time!! You'll be fine, the "organics" sections in the grocery stores are getting bigger, but i really rely on what we have in the garden and have canned/froze...
Any leafy thing will grow very fast for you..so get those seeds in the ground now!! lettuces/spinach/kale..etc...dandelions are good too

**Buy local..until your produce is ready..Roots, Green dragon..any farmers stand, but ask before you buy, because not all "Amish"/Farmers.. grow without pesticides...they have/get bug issues also and when you have fields of crops..well...you just spray...

SilkieSensation, these are your turkeys. Any look pure bred to ya? Ignore the Wyandottes

**Blarney..

so sorry for your losses..geesh, I hope the predator does not come back for more..thinking they will be "easy".
Hey...no-one should EVER..ignore the wyandottes

**Wing- I pretty-much live off of smoothies and dairy products....fruit...most veggies and dairy are they only things I don't seem to have too much issue with..yet...i tell ya, if i couldn't get my ice cream..i think i would be on the news...

..
Are you aloud to buy your foods this coming month or does it all have to be grown by you?...cause Darrenkamps right there has a bunch of good "dry" items...I would definitely recommend "Quinoa", it is a definite "SUPER" food...tons of vitamins and protein.., you just cook it like rice.

LMP - guess where we were today. Stopped at the market. Their cheese and deli meat prices are worth the drive but Scoop's gas prices negate any savings.
ahh-yeah..we try not to get gas up here, either at Scoots or Dremels, but sometimes we don't have a choice
hmm.png
..it is ridiculous..3.99.9 a gallon..not even right.. JMHO..
Oh the deli is awesome!! I have been trying to get some cream cheese and not been able to for 2 weeks now..
somad.gif
..i NEED my cream cheese!!!!.*$1.00 for 8 ounces is AWESOME!!!!..anyway...their dry goods prices are right there too..very good on the raw-sugar & yeast!! Buy the time they start getting produce in..my garden will be doing it's thing and i won't need them for veggies...
HEY..did you try out their hand-scooped ice cream??? We had the Raspberry!! Pretty good..it is the same brand they are selling in the freezers..can't think of the name though..

Oh no! not one of the CCL's. I'm so sorry, those are so hard (and expensive) to replace too.
