Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Thanks MC, I just threw it all in there....

Sorry I'm late with this one. With roasts, I put the onions in bottom under the roast. I only add a little broth; a good roast will be b juicy on its own. Then I stack veggies ON TOP of the roast, trying to keep them out of the broth. You have to salt them separately but they slow roast and are delicious wothout being mushy.

i am gonna be a thread hog for awhile

the boy from Blarney

here you can see, he has some filling out to do yet

now he is just getting annoyed at me, guess he is camera shy

these are the white rocks from the beginning of april and I still can not pick out the roosters, it was a straight run bin so I know there's boys

a close up, i see mostly hen's, there's no way possible that TSC would of had all hen's

a pen of freedom ranger's

most of these only have a week or two left so they deserve a second pic

this guy likes to play in the mud, then expects me to change the water

they run as soon as they see the camera

10 holes in this house and 6 are occupied by broodies, 1 thinking about it and 1 just thinking knock it off we are running out of space.

CC, look the bob/valley pen has had this spot dug out the last couple of days
and today I found an egg in that spot, anyone know if the bob pair or the valley pair are the guilty one's... never had either before so i do not know what the eggs look like.

i have many more but I will quit for now

Well folks its game on with me and a pair of red tailed hawks...since my chick got taken, there's been one perched in a tree about 70yds from my property line. This is three days running....and staying just far enough away where they can watch the flock and not alert the roo...when he/she screeches the roos clucks a bit but not a full warning....its a chess game and I need to find a way to discourage these hawks....
I have a couple of crows hanging out lately, after last summer with all the hawks, I welcome crows

I vote for slingshot ... like Sharron, we have a pair of crows which harass the Hawks...I don't know if maybe there's anything you can do to attract crows to your place?

Oh NOOOOOO!!  so sorry to hear this.  I agree with Silkie! get permethrin for the coop and ivermectin for the birds.  Since you only have a few, it wouldn't hurt to bathe them, then add the ivermectin.

Thanks guys! I think I will bathe them tomorrow, then treat them with ivermectin and the coop with permethrin. Do I have to blow dry them, or is baking in the sun enough to bring out their fluffy cuteness?! :cd
And of course we just put in fresh wood chips this morning, but at least I'm learning a valuable aspect of this chicken growin' stuff straight out of the gate... right?! :idunno

I put mine in a cage & point a small heater set on low at 1 corner. If they wanna dry off there they can, if not, they drip dry. They usually alternate between sitting in front of the heater & grooming in the opposite corner & then back again.

Thinking about getting quail but hubby wants to know if they are worth it? I was thinking of the Coturnix quail.  How much do you sell your quail eggs for?

400

I forget who asked about freezing eggs, but here they are. I used vac seal bags (without using the vac part) & just pressed the air out before sealing. You could do the same with heavy weight ziplock bags.

Not sure if you are asking what hatching quail eggs re worth, or eating eggs.
I sell my quail eggs for the same price as my chicken eggs, but the market for them is very small, most of my quail are used for meat since they are a quick turn over.

Silkie do those eggs have the same taste and texture when thawed?

This is the first time we have deliberately frozen eggs, but the ones that froze & cracked over the winter all went into the breakfast bowl before they even defrosted. We never noticed a difference other than the whites were sometimes a bit cloudy. Not sure how well they would work packed this way for fried eggs, but scrambled is the plan for these anyway.

Hi Y'all!

30 pages of unread messages, so I might never get caught up.

Figured I'd pop in and say Hi, rather than just go MIA. Your garden pix are making me jealous - none here this year. I finally got a couple tomato plants and am going to put them in an empty hoop coop, since I didn't get my raised beds built and we didn't get to till anything. Hubby darlin recently spent 8 days in the hospital with an infection related to his hip replacement. He's on the mend but not exactly ready to help with farm projects.

DH hired someone to clean out all my chicken pens for me, and it was a wonderful boost to how frustrated I was feeling with being behind on every single project. About a dozen of my hens went to live with one of my friends, so there are a few less mouths to feed. A couple girls are broody. Finally had a successful hatch - 36 new babies, faverolles, mostly BBS ameraucanas and a few marans. With luck, I'll have baby Narri turkeys next week.

Thats all that's new here.

Quote: I believe several members of our poultry club raised Buckeyes for 4H "Know Your Breed" project last year. If it doesn't work out with Wing, I can ask the club members if they have eggs.

Yer killin me!! So probably, I should support wing and do a no processed food plan for a month or so? Wing, what are the dates? Start on July 4 or end on July 4th...and does this mean you have until June 4th to actually start? and.... where exactly does alcohol fall? processed? Non processed? If I hit Stake up for some of his homemade cider....

I would drive out there again just to have some of his cider.

I am exhausted! Such a beautiful day, I had to take full advantage. Trying to keep up with all the growing chicks by adding another hoop pen. Building good housing is such hard work. Now I can barely stay awake to type.
