Looks good!

Flecks is a half Black Australorp roo, half mutt hen (who lays green eggs).... he is a nice young fellow who has certainly taken after his daddy when it comes to being people and chick friendly!

Thanks. i am so nervous about letting them out to free range. I'm afraid they won't go back into the run

they still don't all go back in the coop on their own at night. They insist on roosting out in the run lol
Auro:

With little ones you will have no problem keeping them local.....my six move as a group and are mostly scared of everything....and if left out for a couple of hours always return to the food bowl...
With my big girls, they tended to roam until Mr. Roo showed up....now they have no inclination to leave the yard....I have always used a coffee can of scratch as a motivator....mine tend to follow me as soon as they see the can....

Lisa, you asked about what folks use in their runs...we use a fine gravel. stand a pressure treated board up on edge around the base of the run and then fill with 3" or so of the gravel. It will pack in on the underlying layer and the top will remain rather loose so they can scratch. Poo will wash through it with rain or an infrequent hosing and they don't have mud any more.

Here is our young roo, Flecks, posing on the gravel this morning...
Your run looks so beautiful!! No stinky mud

...so tired of this rain..i know i will be glad we got it in july/August, but geesh..can we have a little dry out period..just a little please??!!

Really gonna have to put some $$ back for gravel..it is looking more & more that - that IS the way to go.....or cover the run..hahaha, okay, I am awake now...was dreaming there for a second.

#3 is very cute. Gonna name it Dale?

LOL. My daughter named one Hershey and wanted to name the others but I told her to not name anything that you aren't sure that Daddy isn't going to eat. Funny story, we named one of our first round of chicks Dottie because it had a dot on its face. Also, it is my mom's name. Dottie has turned into a beautiful Black Austrolorp, who for some reason, makes the most horrible screeching noise. Almost like a crow, but more like a RARRRRAEHEAHAHEAHHEEERRRRRR. It is so loud. You can hear it in the house. In the neighbor's house! Anyway, now my husband wants to kill her and she's named after my mom. We think it is kind of hilarious.

So I'm already planning my next hatch. Does anyone near York have muscovy hatching eggs? Oh, and if you sell hatching eggs in York or Lancaster, can you send me a PM with what you sell. I want to make a list of who has what. I think I might be addicted.
