Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Ok, so we have separated our girl with the sour crop, Gertrude. I brought her inside after they went to bed last night so she wouldn't freak out too much. I put a heating pad under a towel in the cage and covered the whole thing with a blanket to keep it warm and dark so she could warm up. We vomited her twice on Saturday and twice yesterday with a little success, but she didn't seem to improve enough to make me comfortable keeping her in with the rest of the girls and all that entails. I spoke with a (new) friend who has been keeping chickens for 20+ years and she said there's no harm in separating her and withholding food for a day or so while allowing her crop to empty as much as possible on it's own. She is awake and a little confused, but she seems alert and her crop has gone down about half way, but it's still very bulgy for first thing in the morning with no food since about 6pm yesterday. Her poops seem soft but fairly solid, as in, no watery poops. She has access to fresh water, I turned off the heating pad and put a desk lamp on top of the cage in one corner to give her warmth and light.

Now, where do I go from here? As you know, I'm very new to all of this but being "schooled" quickly by this flock

! However, if I were to hazard a guess, I think we caught this early enough and she's going to make a full recovery... I just want to do the right things from this point forward for her. So any advice or tips on what I should be doing now?!

Hello PA! I am new the BYC and chickens. Just got my 7 at Easter time. I am in the eastern area of PA. Are there any others in this area? Would anyone be interested in a Barred Plymouth Rock rooster for free? He is 8 weeks old and really sweet. We got him by surprise since I ordered all females. Would love to keep him but I don't think my neighbors will appreciate him. So far no crowing yet! Great to see that there are so many people from PA!

Another Howdy from Chester Co....

Where is the TSC going? I hadn't heard about it. But I am in Lyco, not Clinton Co.
right across the street from the chinese restaurant..not the buffet one..the "other" one..hahaha, it is on the main through fair to Walmart-Lowes-Kmart...going towards those places it is on the left..coming back-on the left. It "will" be...not there yet. They were tearing down the buildings that were there...

LMP, I would stop by if I knew which house was yours.

Going to paint the coop to match the house. Still have the paint from
last fall.
Will have to PM you on that one, would love for you to stop by...that pic is not my house..hahahahha....yours??

Hello & Welcome!!

Hey, they are replacing our plants so I can't be too upset. I hope the cow enjoyed the cabbage :)

So here's the chick with 4 toes and feathered legs:

Here's another chick that looks different than all the rest...it is a beautiful reddish brown color.

And here's my Rhode Island red chick. I was worried that the chicks weren't going to be able reach the waterer when they moved into the big coop, but they quickly figured out how to drink...they either jump up and hit it, or they hang upside down on the top of the waterer and drink. It is adorable.

Very cute chicks!! Love the blue/silver colored one!! OMGosh...i really like that waterer!!!

So I was reading about splayed leg and came across slipped tendons in chicks. I think that may be what ours has. Any experience with this? She was the first one to pip but last one to hatch and her mothers sister had the same issue so maybe genetic? Anyway she Aldo has curled toes. Trying our best to correct it.
