Yes, I received in the mail a citation and photos that were taken of the ducks and 1 dog turd oh they also took pics of my duck house, which is as clean as a duck house can be after a few days. This is a not so good pic of my backyard and the Gray Duck house.

that is just beautiful...ducks couldn't ask for better!

I was standing in the living room, walked into the dining room, and turned down the hallway looking for my kitchen. My kitchen is next to the dining room.
It is gonna be a looooong day!

Oy, it's going to be a long day

I was up with DH at 4:45am to help him get ready for work. Apparently he's going to be doing double shifts all week. So, taking the dogs out, the boys in the coop heard me and started crowing their little heads off. Usually they don't get up and fed until 8:30-ish when we wake up. So got them feed and taken care of. So, the dogs start going crazy since every day, right after the chickens get fed, they get fed so they're bouncing around and howling and going crazy while I'm praying the kids don't wake up. Finally get their stuff together, Hubby leaves for work, and I manage to crash back in bed again by 6:30. 8:00 comes around and the kids are ripping each others heads off. I yell at them, the boys in the coop must've heard me through the window and are now crowing their little heads off again *rolls eyes*. I guess the day has begun lol and now to get the dogs back out and the chickens their morning treats lol.

I've heard that ducks are awesome for snails and slug problems. Soooo... get ducks. Or more ducks

hahaha, you be real funny ...hahaha, no ducks here...I need a pond...i know people have them without, but for me..I NEED a pond. I don't need anymore 'extra' work w/ the cleaning of things...hahaha, everyone knows how that goes..

The sad part is that I had a good relationship with my neighbor I'm not sure why she didn't talk to us about her concerns. My boyfriend went to Code Enforcement today and they told him that they will not follow up on it but if we could at least re-home the Mallards that would be helpful. He also suggested "but without really saying", my Pekins can belong to another family member but stay with me, in other words I can't own more then one but if the other ducks belong to someone else then whose to say.... . And finally, he asked were the Pekins considered Therapy Pets, "BINGO", yes they are or at least that what my physician is going to put in writing.

your setup in beautiful..and clean looking to me...i am glad to hear you have found a way to have them, legally...i truly hope your neighbor issues are resolved in a good way...hopefully your neighbor will see the better/friendlier side to issues and you can have a much more conducive relationship...maybe offer some duck eggs or something?...just a thought..(i have many of them,..thoughts,.. most go unannounced, i have found i stay out of more trouble that way )..hahahaha

Well TECHNICALLY.... I'm from Falconer, NY.

However, I'm only 30 minutes from Warren, PA (Warren County).

My husband works at TSC in Warren.

So I'm gonna come hang out with all you awesome PA people too!

Anyone, Pekin hatching eggs?! I Barter, I bake ask Wing! Lol OH! Wing any hatching eggs? Or yummy processed chickens?

I have Pekin hens and a drake, the girls are about 15 weeks so nothing yet but I will post on here when they start.

okay..now you really want hurt...hahahah

...around here, if you DON'T have a backhoe or any type of large machinery..you just aren't a true resident

.....I DO have a nice sized snow thrower though...

...yeah-yeah..keepin' it real in the WILDS of PA!! hahahaha

Gosh it is so humid...yeah-yeah..i know, we only just started this warm stuff, i am NOT complaining..just saying, i don't do well in the humid stuff..makes me extra cranky and sick...had to come in the house ( no air conditioner) , trying to just do the natural house cooling thing...it is working well.

I was FINALLY out getting the blueberry end of the berry-bed finished...had to stop...will pick up later, after the sun goes behind the mountain...
I put the sod in the meat & turkey pen..boy do they love that, i raked it all out first, just doing that helped with the smells..they aren't bad if you keep up with it, when ya get the chance.. just like anything else....



I have a little more sod to remove, the layers will enjoy that section!!

The dark brown area is mulched & has the black berrie & raspberries, the lighter..was just turned over...
The garden is really taking off!!


We will be picking strawberries tonight!!

container veggie gardens which may or may not have dirt in them by the square foot?

So... does anyone know the rules on keeping a rooster in upper Montgomery county? I am now looking to re-home my little guy because I suspect I am not supposed to have him. Omelet is a 9 week old BR rooster. The family that he may be moving to consists of 4 hens (their rooster die of old age about a year ago and the are looking to get another). We are concerned whether the fact that their hens are a bit older and full grown will pose a problem of him being accepted. They also have one hen that is a bit mean already. Omelet, has been raised with 6 ladies up to this point from 1 day old. Any thoughts?

From my perspective, containers have a bottom that breaks the continuity to the ground underneath, but in a raised bed the soil is a continuous column. That is why you must use very loose, fast draining soil in a container (think potting soil). You can put really dense, clay-rich soils (whatever you dig up from between the beds, usually) into a raised bed and the drainage will still be quite good.

The key here is a continuous column of soil to provide capillary action that moves water up and down in the soil. My college professor used a sponge to demonstrate this. Saturate a regular sponge while laying flat. It holds a lot of water. Now stand it on end and what happens? A lot of water drains out of that same sponge because the sponge is "deeper" when the held vertically. Now, when it stops dripping, touch your finger lightly on the bottom and more water will run down your finger because adding your finger suddenly "deepened" the sponge. A deep column of soil, even of poor quality, acts like the sponge on it's end, pulling water down from the top and increasing the drainage. Of course, capillary action will also bring water up as the top dries. It's self-regulating within a wide range of rainfall/watering.

That is the "magic" of raised beds, rock gardens, etc. It's far easier to get the amount of water right than it is in a container.

Can you take Omelet for a play date with his new girlfriends and see how they get along? If they have been without a male in the coop for some time he might get a very friendly reception. OTOH, hens can be hens and he might not. In that case, could you keep him until he's bigger and more assertive and try again? Maybe his new owners could keep him segregated but visible for a while if the feathers fly on first introduction.
