23 new little chicks sleeping peacefully. Sleeping babies are so calming to watch. I think it should be called "chicken therapy".

Along those lines, anyone in SE PA want some chicks? I have a dozen Easter Eggers and 3 New Hampshires (so far) that need a new home. PM me if you are interested.

I have been so busy, sorry for not being around. Tomorrow is mom's birthday and Saturday we're throwing her a surprise party. So busi-ness. I never posted Disney world pics either like i said i would.

I have 3 mottled bantam cochin cockerels. If anyone wants one (or more) please PM me. They come from the best rooster I've ever had. So gorgeous, amazing with the girls, and nice to humans. They're 5 weeks old.

It only seems to happen in the first day, they are all so tired they sleep at once. After that, it seems like they take turns keeping watch. I've heard of people using feather dusters to emulate a hen, I wonder if they sleep better then.

Another idea I have is that it might help the chicks to play a recording of a mother hen clucking. If this was played during lockdown and hatch, I wonder if it could make a difference. It seems like someone at a university would have already thought of that and determined experimentally if it produced a better outcome. Even if it made the chicks feel more comfortable, that would be worth it.

Anyone ever tried that?

They sound like great little birds, mottles are very pretty, IMO. I wish I could take one, but your too far and I really have too many cochin cockerels already.

It would be nice to see pics anyway, if you have them.

I get chicken therapy everyday, but instead on being on a sofa, I'm on a stool. Haha! My neighbor may or may not have caught me talking to and watching my chickens today.....

x2, sans the bunny,,,,lol

Thanks to the birthday wishes! I'm in the thirty something club now!

This is going to sound like a really dumb question but I have to ask it anyway. I'm still unsure of my 2 silkies are pullets or cockerels. Thera been no crowing and since they're bad quality, I can't even compare them to each other (one has walnut comb the other a single comb). Well today I saw one of my cockerels try to mate with the one (who promptly squealed and ran away). Does that mean for sure that she's a she since he was trying? Lol . I even feel stupid asking that lol.

In other news, everyone just turned 5 weeks old on Saturday and again, egg demand has increased. Now, not only do we have all the neighbors, family (including extended), and friends waiting for eggs but now our neighbor down the other way, who already has chickens is asking for hatching eggs lol. I guess he has a Broody who is determined to hatch, he wants easter eggers, and he has no roos. At this rate, we won't have any eggs for ourselves! We have 13 girls (if both silkies are girls that is) and I hope they're almost ready to roll lol.
