I think there are a lot of us who are actually on this board because we don't fit the definition of 'normal' by today's standard.... how many 'Sex in the City' type 'normal' women know what it means to clean the coop or feed the chickens before heading off to work in the morning, or understand why we don't freak when we find some poo on our shoes?  Or can talk of bumble foot and cocci and still be sipping our coffee or preparing a family meal?  Heck, how many 'normal' folks anymore even know where their food comes from, let alone how to raise it themselves!?!
I think Wing and many others on our board are great examples of how 'not normal' is a great way to be! :highfive:

Reading all of these exchanges this morning makes me feel so much better about not feeling like most of our family and friends. I do so much stuff that most of them are shocked by and wouldn't even consider doing. My hubby has to travel a lot for work so I've found myself doing all sorts of work I didn't think I could and quite honestly a few years ago probably wouldn't do. (the giant zero-turn mower and  pressure cooker still scare me).

I'm often surprised by other peoples responses to our lifestyle. I offered a family member some of our eggs and was told they didn't care for our fresh eggs because they don't taste like what she gets from the store. At a picnic, an aunt gave our daughter cool-aid, she took a sip and gave it back and she asked if we could go home and get our own juice (we jar concentrate from our harvest every fall). I was asked what is wrong with her that she doesn't like it. Personally, I couldn't have been more proud that she turned it down!

I can fix the toilet, clean the carpets, change the oil, repair my elliptical, take care of the flock and 15 acres and still have a fully home cooked meal on the table. We're trying to be self sustaining but most of our family and friends think we're not normal! I've never loved being so "not normal" in my entire life!

You sound just like me...lol

Nope, pretty normal for my household, yesterday I spent 2 hours fixing the dishwasher ( a piece of plastic was clogging the filter by the chopping blades)...while he watched football.

Never said we are normal by any standards.( would not want to be)

I work with people that thinks it is funny to come inside and tell me my dinner is loose in the parking lot ( rabbit or ground hog). Wonder what they would do if I pull a shotgun out the back of the car and take my dinner with me.

Go for it!!

And never once in my life have I ever claimed to be normal

If anyone in SE PA is interested in Midget White turkeys or Cochin bantams, please PM me. We are thinking about reducing our flock before winter.
Lots of free Welsummer, Rhodebar and Ameracauna roos to give away also, but those are probably a harder sell . . .

Good afternoon all:

Had a visit from @AnneInTheBurbs today. Sorry she couldn't stay longer, but got to show off my crew (hiding under the bushes) and give her a few feed bags...

My crew spent the entire day, until 5:00p under the bushes hiding from hawks...had one fly into my neighbor's yard around 11:00a....I chased it off....they are on the move and there are many of them....hope most move through before the leaves drop from the trees....

Love the recent posts! Even when I'm too busy to post, I keep checking in cause I fit in with you not-normal folks.

My looking-to-sell-before-winter list includes salmon faverolles, narrigansett turkeys and maybe a couple scovy ducks. All hatched this summer, but are moved outside now.
