Please do not read if you are squeamish....

I have recently found a buyer for all my chicken feet and heads....seems people are feeding these things to their pets..
Only thing not being used are the intestines, anyone have a use for these...

I am very happy to put everything to use...

I recently dehydrated some chicken feet for my daughter's dog. She called the next day for more.

Suppose to be a good healthy snack for the dog's

How does one dehydrate chicken feet?

And I can imagine they are good treats. Full of flavor and texture. Chicken bones that have never been frozen are supposed to be dog safe. It's the frozen ones that get brittle and are dangerous to dogs.

I stuck them in the oven on low or a couple hours...
What about this, would you eat it.

Sounds like a tasty treat to me! (Well, for the dogs any how)

Stake and Aurora, I have a thought. Scary, I know. Are the moms not doing a good job because it is so late in the season, and the weather is messing with their broody feeling?
I know it is all under control now, but I was just thinking of the "why?"

in my case, I'm pretty sure it was my own fault. I had to move her out of the main coop and into her own area so the other hens wouldn't get ahold of another baby. I knew that she had two already hatched so I stated moving her and her eggs and babies and found that another had just hatched. She covered the others and her eggs just fine but that little one just didn't get covered. Lucky is doing just fine now and Cloud is doing a wonderful job :)

my husband looked up the feet the other day and apparently they make an excellent broth too

I hadn't heard about not being safe if previously frozen, I thought they were safe as long as they were raw... That it was once you cook them that they become brittle/sharp. I actually use cooked carcasses to make my dog's food though. Cooked in the crockpot with water and a splash of Apple cider vinegar for long enough (generally 24 hrs on high or 48 hours on low) is enough to make them soft and crumbly. I add some veggies for the last hour and sometimes dip out some really nutritious bone broth for us before mashing the carcass, remining broth, and veggies with a potato masher. Our dog loves it and switching to that diet probably saved here life... She was in bad shape a year or so ago, starting this diet brought her back from the brink and now we supplement the homemade food with Honest Kitchen to make sure we aren't missing anything important.

Happy to say that this little hen is on it's way home with anneintheburbs...she hatched on may 31 from a pen of MF Cochin... not sure where those colors came from..

I think her colors would be considered birchen but I only had the MF in that pen at the time. I do have a birchen rooster though, maybe he was a little sneaky.

She's a pretty little hen, I'm sure she will do well in her new flock!
