Hope the report goes well for Devan....and I really hope you don't have to lose your flock(you have a bunch of 'keepers'). If you need a hand, setting up a new coop/pen, give a shout...I built my second coop/pen in 24hrs...all item available at HD, except the pallet crate)....
wow, this just sank-in..you built a coop in 24 hours?!@?..and how many cups of coffee did you have?
bow.gif
..hahaha...must be some plan you have there!!...at least tell me you couldn't move the next day

@lmp, no they root from branch cuttings, but you can't take the cuttings until after all the leaves fall.

Hybrid poplar root easily without rooting hormone, grow supper fast and aren't really good for much beside rapidly getting trees in an area. Wood isn't great firewood or anything else, but when cut they regrow from the stump and they are good for reclaiming land and absorbing pollutants. The one I planned in may are 5-8 get two. They were maybe 1 or two when they went in. Really not a great tree, but I wanted something to fill in quick as a riparian buffr that will hopefully help produce area for wildlife in a few years. By that time I hope more native stuff gets established. Also hoping they keep the seamounts down and clean the water to help the stream. I'm sure the farmer up the hill uses things I'd prefer weren't in the creek. He has a habit of farming to the edge of his peppery, removing fencerows and scrap brush. I understand he needs to maximize profit, so I'm trying to establish more diverse areas for wildlife. Let my side of the fencerow get wider, etc.

I have stupid chickens. They still sleep in a cuddle puddle under the coop. Seriously, if they like it there, is there any reason to make them go inside? Maybe for winter?
I LOVE your coop! I think as long as they are safe from predators and aren't in standing water, they should be ok... Maybe you could put a branch or pallet to keep them off the ground? Devan has her own place but has been staying here. She's back at her place now, I expect that she'll be here or I'll be there if she needs more treatment. Today wasn't so great, pain was up and her moods were all over the place. Her pathology report came back, but she never got a call to tell her the results....this did not exactly help her mood. @CC: You start Poplars from cuttings?! Very cool. Do you use rooting hormone?

I know! Right? That is some amazing coop building. I sure will give you a holler, Stake. Thank you.

I seem to have lost my blue crayon.

oh...okay...was wondering really hard how that whole leaf-thing worked

That farmer should know better...streams and HIS fields need that buffer!..goof-ball anyway!

...i do know what i am talking about from time to time

..and this is for sure...have a lot of 'blood' in farming..dairy mostly..and my grandfather was responsible for a bunch of efforts to preserve all aspects of such endeavors. Perry County in particular..anyway..off the topic...that guy should definitely know better..he could even get 'help' for that kind of issue..agri. is BIG business in PA..lots of pull in the political sector. I don't know his 'deal', but in any case...that shouldn't be happening...wow, i am getting cranky, think I should go to bed...hahaha...
glad you are taking initiative to make your area better...it takes time, but it will pay off. Sometimes even sooner than you can imagine.

...my dog probably ate it....will know tomorrow...

I have MANY projects here if he gets bored..
tongue.png
..took us almost 2 years to get that thing kinda/almost done..geesh..

got outside for a few minutes today...actually got something accomplished!!
Cut herbs and hung them in coop and put in nest boxes, sure does make things smell really good!
Have been trying to figure a way to get the egg shell & grit cups hung, most of the coop is brick wall, the wood areas are higher up except below the windows..my brain de-fogged long enough to come up with this for now....gosh, everything is going in slow-motion..
now back to sitting on the couch, seems all i have the energy for anymore...
hmm.png

this should work for now..unless they decide to dance on them..which they have been known to do
roll.png
...
The birds have been so layed-back and calm ..all were busy getting their feathers "did"..haha..and look at those little ones that aren't so little anymore..geesh...
should have eggs in a month or so..should, but of course they have the say in that
hmm.png
..

everyone is a bit raggedy right now..feathers are every where..
all that 'stuff' in the run is the last of the garden.. pepper plants..sweet & jalapeno..they had a good time with that!

What kinds of herbs do you hang in the coop? And what kind of chicken is that in the center-foreground of your pictures? She is beautiful!

I really need to start ripping my garden down. We raked a bunch of leaves today and filled up the run since it was so nice out, but I probably should get to ripping up my garden too. I don't do much outside when it's cold and last year I didn't rip out my old garden until Spring, lol. It looked so bad all winter! I gave the chickens a little pie pumpkin that got bit up or frost damaged or something, they loved it. I've given them a bunch of pumpkin over the last few weeks, that acts as a natural de-wormer, right? So I shouldn't need to do any worm meds or anything this season, correct?

Mine did that for a while, I had to lock them in the coop for a few days and then block off the bottom of the coop so they couldn't go under there. Once they got the idea they never try to sleep under the coop anymore. Silly birds
