Do you have any pics of these grown up ?
Here you go:

Oldest roo, pic 1, with his young harem

Oldest roo, pic 2

One of his sons, no zoom on these, I literally had the camera about 8 inches from his face.

With his brother trying to photobomb

They all use the nestboxes from the start.

farther back pic showing more of the pen

wishing all a happy & healthy new year ..fur & feathered too!!!

Boy winter sure did make it'self known! January is here!!
Had to actually 'stomp' the frozen water bowl this-morning....BRRrrrrr...

Dang quote is not working, so I gotta remember what I read...

Fisherlady, sounds like a perfectly normal night to me. You should see the faces at work when I pull a chicken leg from a jar, heat it for 2 minutes and gnawl away at it...

Dheltzel... that boy sure did fill in nicely, and I am glad you put those two to a good project...

On another note, does anyone raise mice, if so please send a pm( as to not gross anyone out). I am looking for a few breeders.

Happy New Year everyone!!

So since I've gotten no eggs from my girls for a month or more and I can't stand store eggs I've decided I'm going to the Lebanon/Annville Livestock Auction next week. I'm going early and getting eggs but I think I might look for a few young hens to add to my flock. Anyone been there and can offer any advice? It's either buy a new hen or two and trade someone wine for a laying hen. I'm getting desperate for some good tasting eggs!

Also, anyone have Cayuga ducks? My hubby told me this morning he would like to add them to our flock, so I'm going to start looking.

One more thing, best way/advice on shipping eggs? Someone from Texas contacted me about slate blue eggs but I've never bought or shipped eggs and it completely scares me.

Dang, I wish you didn't live on the other side of the state.... I have some nice healthy birds who I would trade for a bottle of wine in a minute, especially knowing they were going to a good home!

Hens=wine
I like these idea's
So does the color and strength of the wine change with what kind of hen is available?
This past fall I traded 4 pullets (barnyard mixes) for 2 quart jars of awesome honey. With the current price of raw honey I figured I made out pretty well on the trade and he was happy with the new girls.... win/win! Barter/trade works just fine for me!
