For showing, not all breeds are recognized and have classes. If showing (and winning) is important, the will play into the breed selection process. I don't show (anymore, I did in 4-H), so may not be the best to advise you.

Do you have an incubator to hatch eggs you might buy, or are you looking for chicks?

Yes, we have a LG with fan and turner. We have hatched out some of our own last year and tried some shipped eggs but didn't do very well. I have a book from our fair that has the showable varities, classes, colors and etc. I would do either eggs or chicks. My girls started out with rabbits and had shown them for about 5 years and we slowly sold off all of them and switched to chickens 2 years ago.

I have 3 white leghorn pullets about 11 weeks old, I have had them for several weeks. I have several other breeds but these leghorns are just too flighty for me. Anyone near Kittanning interested in them? I would love to find a new home for them with someone who likes and understand this breed.
I know someone who really likes his leghorns, I had one of my broodies hatch and raise a half dozen for him last year. He would probably be interested in the pullets also, he may have some Americaunas to trade but not positive. I will send you a PM

Just came back in from doing my coop chores. Today was the first time I've noticed any signs of a predator (besides summer time hawks). The whole way around both coops/runs and even on top of them were little foot prints. Looked like raccoon :/ obviously he couldn't find a way to get in since all my birds were fine but he must've been out there sometime this afternoon. It's a bit nerve racking.

in other news, my broody is starting to check out the nest boxes again. She was in and out about 4 times while I was out there doing stuff. Her babies are all pretty much self sufficient now being about 9 weeks old. They only snuggle with her at night now. Little Wynter is quite a live wire already. I watched him try to beat one of the 15 week old girls down in the pecking order. Both of them went at each other feet first. He's still too little to kick butt yet lol.

Erin:

I have a brown that I adopted...she is smaller than most of the birds and has some type of infirmity walking....(still gets around), but she is skiddish at every movement I make...runs away when I try to hand feed her and runs if I toss scratch towards her....go figure that one....

Hello, I'm over here near Bethlehem, pa I'm wondering if anyone close enough that has any eggs for sale. Looking for egg layers Americauna.

Howdy from Chester Co...don't have anything going now but, will have CCL and various CCL mixes (including Olive eggers) when the layers turn on.....

Racoons are mostly dusk to dawn hunters/scavanging....after losing a hen to a racoon a bit back, I've been keeping traps set....so far three squirrels and one baby ground hog.....all caught on dry dog food...(go figure)....TSC had traps on sale for $25.00....and I am making sure to get the dog out a few times in the evening to 'patrol' the fence....

Lastly, if they think there's food available, they will be back and racoons are pretty ingenious about finding food....when I was a renter, there was one that climbed up a three story fire excape...climbed over the roof and down to a third floor deck on the other side of the house, through a cat door and was eating the tennents cat food at 2:00a one summer evening a long time ago...
