Okay.................so this is very different.
I have 3 hens...................a silver laced wyandotte, golden laced wyandotte, and new hampshire red....................they lay nice light brown eggs.
Well today I found a white................as in bright white egg in the nest box!
I was thinking perhaps a leprechaun stopped by and put a white egg in the nest box just to mess with me.....................but then why not put a green one is.......................really on St Patricks day...........green seems a better choice for a leprechaun.
However my question is has anyone ever had a light brown egg layer all of a sudden out of the blue lay a bright white egg? It was on the larger size..........similiar to the size that my NHR lays..................
what the heck?
This is similar to the hoop houses I made for growout last summer, just not portable. If you are going to tarp over part, make sure it is anchored for when the wind gets under the tarp and starts lifting.
Pieces of wire last better than plastic ties, lengths of old electical wire are great for this, flexible and the copper never rusts.
Be sure to add battan boards going between the PVC conduit hoops to hold them at fixed distances, the welded wore is not stiff enough for this purpose.
All from lessons learned last year.
I'm pretty sure if you build that without the shelter and put a tarp on it, some morning after a bad storm you will find it crumpled up some distance away from where you had it. I used PT 2x4's for the bottom of mine and it took 2 big guys to lift it off the ground (just dragging it was a serious effort) and both of mine went sailing off last July.I'm planning on making a tractor like this one for my meaties but without the coop on the end. I plan to put a tarp over the end for shade... how do you suggest anchoring it down? I want to be able to move it every day. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/68961438020890509/
Okay guys, I need your help! Have any of you moved with chickens before? We are hoping to sell and move to a place with more land.
I suspect it will be hard to sell my house in suburbia with chickens in the backyard. Is there anybody who would be willing to take my girls for a couple of months until we sold? I would be willing to help pay to feed my girls and yours. Please let me know if this is evens possibility!
I have done so much poultry in a jar sessions lately that I should be wearing a grim reaper costume..
grateful for the meat on the table but geez, it is a lot of work.
also had to do an unexpected rooster this morning, The boys are fighting and this guy got beat up pretty good. being so low in the pecking order I did not see the need to doctor him.
on a happy note, silkie's eggs came today..I seen a robin today (first one I seen in a while ). and I got a nice fat turkey resting in the fridge for sunday dinner.. and best of all, these duckies should be moving outside this weekend...
