By weight I need 17parts and 7.4 parts

Oh so if you had 1 pound of feed 17 parts would be grain?

This was so much easier when I could hand someone a slip of paper with what In had available and he would come back and tell me how many pounds of each to add.

Not sure what you mean.
My grains combines are 12.6 percent protein
The concentrates that I will be adding are 37 percent protein
Now how to mix these 2 to come out to a finished product of 20% protein...tried using the Pearson square in the link to figure it out but still not sure

Oh ok I know what you mean now... You need 200 pounds of feed that is mixed grain which is 12.6% protein and protein concentrate which is 37% protein. Ok! Give me a sec.!

Thanks everyone, I know that we grow a product that is superior to store bought, I am just a little frustrated that some of the customers are not willing to pay for that..

Now I need a little bit of brain power, my neighbor used to figure out my feed, so now I am stumped...math is not a strong point.....
I have a change in feed this year since roasted soybeans are available to me, I am gonna use them...but here is my dilemma....I managed to figure that I need 17 parts of grain and 7.4 parts of protein concentrate...now to mix a 200 pound batch t a time I need to know how much of each in poundage....
I hope that made sense...here is the chart that I used.
And my neighbor is no longer with us, so I am on my own...

Wing:

139.34 lbs if grains
60.65 of protein concentrate....

the equation is...7.4/24.4 = x/200 then cross multiply...

the logic is...there is 24.4 parts....17 in one group and 7.4 in another...

if there is something I am missing ,,,,apologies.....

Yep that is what I got! Sorry I looked at the time and remembered I had to go to town for a meeting and was already late so I had to scurry out in a hurry!

I called hokes mill which has a mill here in York, Dan Hoke was very helpful with this but what we figured out was this. there layer mash that they mill is 16% and the roast soybeans was some where in the neighborhood of 30%, I got lucky because it worked out to 1lb of soybean to 17lbs of their layer mash(had a 17 lb feeder at the time) brought the feed to almost 20% protein. 200/17= approx. 12. so 12 labs should bring 200 lb up 4%. As you try increase the protein more beyond that the % increase will become slightly smaller. But since you are looking for 20% that shouldn't matter too much.

I just lost 5 birds on Monday. My favorite bearded silkie, 2 serama's,, 1 mixed silkie/serama rooster and my little Easter Egger. I'm guessing the door didn't latch properly when I closed them in for the night. After this winter things seemed to shift around. Whatever it was only left feathers behind. No blood at all. It was small enough to squeeze through the door (top latch was latched but bottom one was not. The door couldn't open all the way). We found one body deep in the woods partially eaten. When we had a raccoon or possum problem with our old coop they left the birds behind. Any guesses? Oh, and it left our broody and all her eggs in one piece. I'm guessing it fit into the run but not the actual coop....even though there were tons of feathers in the coop too.

Anyway, Mother's Day is fast approaching and my brother in law made me this. He has them for sale in his store. He also makes custom coop signs or any other sign you can think of! Check it out https://www.etsy.com/listing/227707177/carved-rooster-trivet?ref=listing-shop-header-0

peep:

Sorry you lost some of your girls...always bites a bit deep when they are your pets...

I'm located in SW PA, just south of the Butler County line in Beaver County. Will be looking for Buff Orpingtons or Australorps soon if anybody in the area knows of some (can't have chicks at this time so need them a little older) :( There's another thread about that out there somewhere. :)

Hey neighbor! My husband works in Conway, we live about 20 minutes west of Beaver. We do have australorps, but we don't have any extras... Actually hoping for a broody to expand our flock (in which case, we may have extras). But that is entirely up to the hens, we aren't hatching/brooding any more chicks. I'd rather let a mother hen do it.

We also have RIRs and just got a bunch of cornish roasters for processing and Delaware and Dark Cornish for eventual breeding of meatier birds that can actually reproduce on their own. American Blue meat rabbits as well. And 3 little girls who love our growing 'farm'.
