I need a couple simple ideas for chicken tractors. Simple, cheap, relatively sturdy, as they may be long term.
Think is, I wasn't it totally covered except one end. But ventilated. Filtered light might be OK. I'm thinking maybe translucent PVC roofing over a curved wooden frame (I can make a curbed frame by piecing at angles and cutting a curve). Does that PVC roofing cut UV?

My main roo and a hen are going to a new home tomorrow. I'm hoping my new roo thats taking over will be just as good as Joel was. He's still young, maybe 8 months old and is still earning the girls trust. Joel and Midnight (both BCM) are joining a small flock on a dairy farm I'm sad to see them go but happy for their future. I'm trying to improve my Marans line and knowing that they both carry the recessive wheaten gene, I need to start over with the Marans. Thanks to Dheltzel, I have 3 gorgeous young pullets growing up (Faith, Mercy, and Grace) and a promising young cockerel (Mocha) from some well known lines

Here are my chicken triangles.

The larger one is 5 x 10, the smaller is 4 x 8. They are made with 2x4s, old metal roofing, and chicken wire. Each has wheels for easy movement.
The larger coop has an external nesting box, which I'm not sure works, but it makes my father in law happy. All of the tractors have a roosting bar about 18 inches off the ground.

Here is a closer picture of the smaller one.

Is the covered area a coop and does it go down to ground level or is there space under it for shade?

IDK if it interests you, but I see a lot of tractors built with EMT (electric metallic tubing). My son loves the stuff (in an electrical program). It's lightweight and cheap. I just bought 10 ft lengths and they were only a couple dollars each. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Good to hear your chooks are going to a good home....I have had discussions on other threads of breeding out bad traits VS keeping the good ones....always a balancing act, and I am beginning to understand how many generations it take to build a quality line....I am trying (in the smallest Backyard) to get a CCL and Dorking lines established...and keep my BC Marans and a few others going for variety....hope your new boy has the 'stuff' you are looking for....

I don't know what it is either, but others have said that it's henbit and that chickens will eat it right up. I just thought it was a weed.
