I'm glad you like them! They have neat personalities. My very first bantam hen is still alive, her name is "Violet". She knows her name and comes when I call her name. Sometimes she just follows me around outside.

That's awesome! How old do you think she is? Is she the mama of the two girls I have?

My landscaper has a bunch of three-month-old chicks free ranging. No coop The coop will be built in another month or so. :-D

Sorry to hear....I have lost alot to foxes over the past 6mos.....all day time attacks...they are a PIA.....it might be worth your effort to try to find their den.....trapping or shooting them hasn't worked for me.....know that they will be back and over time will adapt to whatever you do to chase them off.....my two cents....

I will have to do some research on what to look for. We have a few acres of woods around us I wonder what there range is?

Leg traps baited with canned cat or dog food or tuna/salmon work pretty well to get them to hold still to administer the lead poisoning.

I thought of doing that I'm just a little worried I will be hurting any of the neighbors cats or dogs that happen to roam the property.... But I seem to be getting the same feed back that its hard to get them in the humane traps....

Nearly impossible to catch in the live traps. Warn the neighbors you are putting out leg traps. Then it's their responsibility to keep their animals off your property. My son had leg traps (just bar, no teeth) set all winter. He caught his own dog & my cat. His dog was out within a few minutes because I saw it happen. He was fine, no limp, nothing. My cat was stuck for several hours because she got caught at night & I didn't find her til morning. Nothing broken, but her foot was pretty swolen for about 24 hours. Within 48 hours she was walking on it normally. These traps aren't typically dtrong enough to break bones, but they hold pretty tight until you release them. My son forgets where he puts them all the time & ends up stepping in them himself. You just hear him griping while he pries it off his shoe.

Our 'teeny bopper' grow out coop looks like a world class pillow fight arena right now.... I think I could have stuffed a new mattress with what I cleaned out yesterday, and that is a weekly thing!

So did anyone else here ever about panic the first time they saw a bird laying in the yard with one wing and one leg stretched out and looking about dead??? .... until you realized they just like to sun themselves?? LOL

First time I saw them sunning themselves, I thought they had died. Ran into the run and scared everyone lol.

My duckling pictures I took this morning. They are growing so fast. My power went out for 5 hours today. Some nincompoop hit the telephone pole at the bottom of my road and knocked all the electrical wires across the highway.
