HELP please....................as many of you know...............I have not had chickens for that long.

Ramona is acting not at all like herself....

She is a NHR about 2.5 yrs old

She is just standing there........
not moving much

She sometimes looks like she is trying to fall asleep outside in standing position

She pecks like once or twice at food..................and then stops........

I brought watermelon out..............not interested.

I picked her up
her body seems intact
I turned her upside down and checked her vent...............she had dirty feathers back there...........some poop caked on the feathers but the skin looked ok and the vent look as ok as i can tell
so I took a wet rag and just cleaned up her backside and sprayed some blukote on

her comb is a regular color ( except for when I turned her upside down to check her vent..............then it was purple bluish yet went back to red once up)

She is just not moving around and interested in food.

What is it?

I do have vitamins and electrolytes
I do have corrid ( amprolium) ........a big bag

I do have ACV in the house............

Please help me with what to do!

I will now go to research the medical section..............just seemed like you all would know faster!

thanks

Welcome, Abundant!
Anne, either buy oatmeal bath or make one. Put oatmeal in a sock or stockings over the faucet (use a scrunchie or rubber band) turn on the water, and there ya go.

status update!

Its been about and hour and half since I noticed Ramona's difference in health.............and things seem better!

I was worried

She actually jumped up to the top nest box................since she had not been moving much etc.........I was amazed.........

And she stayed there.........in the same posture for quite some time.............maybe 30 min or more?

I went about cleaning the coop etc

then she got more active........started pecking at the pine shavings etc

She jumped down...........showed interest in food and water..........and was more like herself

I checked the nest box........nothing there..........so i took out the plastic bin and noticed it was a little damp..............I think she might have laid an egg without a shell or some liquidy parts of an egg. After laying this she seemed better.

I brought her some watermelon and put food and water nearby and she ate...........I also provided a bowl of crushed egg shells and I think she really liked them............probably too little calcium?

I had also added a little ACV into the water...............what the heck that cant hurt!

lets hope things continue to look more normal again!

I have not really had any major problems............and am happy with this

The problems I have been having are related to trying to get the older and younger chicks to co-habitate! with less aggression! still working on this!

Glad she's doing better!
My opinion is that a shell doesn't get stuck. It is possible that the egg shell broke inside (if she was egg bound) but I think it would come out easily enough on its own.

not sure of your location, but with the rainy, muddy conditions that we are having, if i found a chicken like that, my first thought would be cocci
you think it would be cocci...............even if after she laid a liquidy egg in the nest box and starting moving and eating and acting more like herself......

I initially was worried about cocci..........

but after the above scenario............felt less concerned
