Tuck and Chuck

Tuck and Chuck are very nice looking. How are their personalities?

They're awesome little guys, amazing personalities. I bought Chuck (white) when he was over a year old, and Tuck (blue magpie) when he was only 3 months old, but Chuck likes me more than Tuck does. Chuck eats out of my hand, while Tuck doesn't. They're super happy, and hilarious. Grateful of anything I give them, unlike the chickens. They're very nice to eachother (and the chickens), they're two peas in a pod (which is why their names rhyme). Whenever I say "Hiiii Chuck and Tuck" they talk back to me, it's so cute. A friend of mine had pekins, mallards, and calls and having the calls made him hate the larger ducks so much that he sold them and is now expanding his call flock.

Sorry that paragraph was a little all-over the place, I was just thinking of things as I was typing :D

Good evening all:

One of my 10wk old OE roos has started to crow...(pretty lame at this point, but points for effort)...don't know if he's one of the F1's of F2's the marks on their feet wore off before I could re-mark....

Bottom pic is a roo. Best way to sex silkies is wait for an egg or a crow.
one of them is crowing, but I can't tell them apart, hahaha!

Silkies are notoriously hard to sex, if you've caught one crowing, that's pretty lucky! I think the other birds look like maybe a D'Uccle cross, the high tail and body shape don't look like Cochin to me. Very cute, though!

Ok...cuteness alert...

Yesterday was beautiful in our neck of Penns woods and I opened up the pop door to let the 2 latest broody hens out with their 4 day olds. They have been in their 6x6 broody stall since hatch since the weather has been so horrible and these are both 1st time broodies so we wanted to watch them the first few days...
The Littles weren't too sure about this outside stuff at first...
It looks scary out there!

But eventually the mama hen calls got them out...

They got to explore a bit and checked out the rocks...

How sweet is this??! We have had no broody this year, I miss that.

We did our final cull this week of the birds that 'may' have been exposed to Mycobacterium last fall. We have had several birds necropsied since then and not one tested positive for the disease - so it was a tough day rounding up these gorgeous birds that we've put our heart and soul into and destroying them. At the end of the day, I did feel some relief that I can put that all behind us. And we've got 3 less pens to water and feed in the mornings.
