Question for all: Looking into either building or buying a multi-day waterer, any suggestions. We will be going to Aruba in early January for 5 days. My in-laws usually takes care of the birds while we are gone but with the weather being what it is that time of year and our massive up hill driveway, they may not be able to make it up (or back down) everyday. We have a feeder already but the watering is our only concern.

I made a waterer out of a 5 gallon bucket. It has 4 poultry nipples on the bottom and lasts well over 2 weeks if allowed to go that long and I always have between 25-30 chickens in that pen.

I did the same only my poultry nipples are side mount ones so that I don't have to hang the 5 gal bucket, I can just set it on a cement block :)

They are approximately 10 weeks old. Only one is crowing, although I suspect that both are roos. They are in a little bachelor pen with some very vocal OEGB, so maybe that was encouragement.

Anyone else having nothing but downpours today?

It wasn't bad earlier today, but we are getting it now for sure.

Well, this morning I treated about 75 chickens with Ivermectin for lice. 2 of them puked on me and one pooped on me, but most were surprisingly tolerant. I expected the "mellow" Rhodebars to be easier than the Legbars, but that was not the case, the Legbars were really easy to catch and hold.

Had my first "substantial" guinea hatch, 17 out of 23 eggs that made it to lockdown. Unfortunately, 2 of the eggs were overlooked when I was moving them to the hatcher, and those 2 fell off the rack in the cabinet incubator (about a foot, I would say), and then got a bit splay legged because of the smooth tray in the bottom. I need to a) be more careful to account for all the eggs, and b) put a piece of hardware cloth on the bottom so they have something to grip if it should happen again. I go to all that work to make the hatcher "just right" with high humidity and slightly cooler temps, and I get a perfect hatch with the eggs getting turned to the end and the humidity far too low!

Glad you had a productive hatch! Accidents happen. :hugs

Today hubby picked a zucchini and an eggplant from our garden, Woo hoo!! I can't wait till we have some cucumbers and tomatoes.

Wow! That seems early! We have been getting cherry tomatoes this week, yay! It looks like a may have a a baby acorn squash growing. My hens "planted" me a pumpkin plant next to my patio. The ate the pumpkin and spread the seeds, apparently. It doesn't seem like it has enough light where it is, but it sure seems to be thriving with all of the neglect! I'm just leaving it there to see if anything grows, I will have to post a pic soon.

Northwest, PA Erie!! All it is doing today is raining and my pullets love it. Some of them have not been inside the coop since this morning. :D

My silly girls were walking around in the rain a lot too and are now all soaked. At least it's warm out there...

We are at camp near Lake City...and raining over here too! security cameras are showing a lot of wet birds out running around at home now...silly birds have 400+ ft of roofed run to stay dry under but still go into the 400 Sq ft of open run instead!

Yep, but somebody has to eat all those worms out there!

Only one thought...make sure no sun light can get to the water....leads to algae.....my two cents....

Kept everyone penned up today. The newbies are escape artists now. Not so good at getting back in. Since the dog and I went to the Celtic Fling today,I figured it was safer for them. And I didn't need to search the yard for Bridget's eggs. It still wasn't in the box, but at least the run is a smaller place to search. Silly girl.
