Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

@dheltzel I think this Maran is is Roo. Your thoughts? :D Anyone else here is free to chime in too. I think it's neat that the one Rhodebar is slightly darker than the other. This is three chicks, just to clarify. And look at my pretty pumpkin plant! It's doing surprisingly well for being in a bad spot. ;)

I'm voting pulled (got a 50/50 chance of being right) lol. I don't see much wattle action going on there, but another week or 2 could change that.

got a question for those of you who have raised Cornish cross. If you could give advice on brooding newly hatched Cornish cross, what would it be?
Encourage activity!! we raised our last group on sand and put numerous small logs in brooder to get them perching and make sure that food and water are in separate areas and heat source is in another. if they have a warm area big enough to sleep in the rest of the brooder can be much cooler (65 or so) it is also good if you can raise a few "normal " chicks with them...use finch seeds and hulled sunflower kernels to get them used to foraging and a low pan with wood ash and dirt mix for them to dust. we did this with our last group and they grew up acting like normal chickens except for the waddle! LOL

This is a copy of a post I made in the lavender ameraucana thread. The consensus there is that this baby is blue. What are your thoughts? Just curious about it. I hatched some eggs from my lavender roo after I had to put him down to save his genes. I was hoping to breed this one (pretty sure it's a roo) to my black/lav splits to get lavenders again.

Thank you for your input. I went out and took a better picture of him for you guys. This is the baby.

I also found a picture that has dad, mom, and a blue copper marans in it (color comparison for dad). Malcolm was the dad. He's in the upper left corner of the picture (lav ameraucana). Sugar was the mom and is on the bottom right corner (white EE), and the blue copper Marans is in the bottom left corner. Not the best picture but good enough to see the colors.

ETA: can white plus lav give blue?

I woke up this morning and let everyone out like usual and I found Sugar, my white EE hen dead under the roost bar :( it's so heartbreaking. She was one of my original girls and was boss hen in my coop. There was nothing wrong with her yesterday but by the way she was laying, it looked like she was crawling under the roost bar and someone fell or jumped on her and broke her neck. RIP sweet Sugar
