Id like to get pures more, id like to get some gray or black hens i have red hens so really id just like to get a different color to go with them

I hope to have purebred Blue/Black/Splash, as well as Wheaten Ameraucanas.
In the "not quite purebred" (because there is no standard for them, but they are pure blooded Ams nevertheless) category I hope to have a few silkied blacks and lavenders as well as blacks that are split for both of those (silkied and lavender).

Blue chickens are popular because they are different than the normal blacks, but IMO a good black is the most impressive Ameracuana ever. They shine with green and purple irridescence in the sun.

That's what I love about my australorps... the iridescence is so pretty!

Hey everyone!

Not exactly a brand-new member, but it's been a couple of years since I've been on here. Getting re-acquainted with my fellow PA chicken-keeping lunatics, particularly those of you in or near Butler County.

I have a couple of flocks right now, and I want to make some changes in them. I've been blessed with a wonderful little mille fleur d'uccle hen who goes broody a couple of times a year, and is an excellent mother to the chicks she hatches out. Not yet but soon, I'll be looking for fertile eggs, hopefully from someone within driving distance (I've never bought hatching eggs before, but from what I've read, the further away they ship from the lower the percentage of eggs that will actually hatch).

I'll be looking for hatching eggs from good, dual-purpose LF. Something like Speckled Sussex, Delaware, maybe Barred Rock or White Rock. I'd like to stay away from Buff Orpingtons. No offense to fans of the breed, but the three I have now, while pretty good layers, are terrible bullies, and not particularly active foragers ( my chickens, in addition to egg production, are expected to help turn compost for me. My one White Leghorn probably turns over more compost than all three Buffs combined).

So anyone around Butler County who produces fertile eggs, and is willing to sell them, drop me a line! Not quite ready now (that depends on my broody), but probably late winter/early spring. Just trying to get things lined up in advance, instead of flying by the seat of my pants like I usually end up doing.

Welcome back from Cambria county! I'm probably about 2 hours from you and always have a bunch of fertile eggs. Right now they're all mixed together though so not sure if your looking for pure bred or not. I have ameraucanas, cream legbars, black coper marans, and rhodebars. I also have two silver penciled rock pullets who should be coming into lay here in a couple more months. My birds are all great foragers (especially the ameraucanas) but they're not huge birds. If your interested in any, I could set you up with some hatching eggs. If your more interested in pure bred and bigger birds, I'm sure someone on here has some

I absolutely love the first time chicks get their little breaks on some meal worms! My babies are almost 2 weeks old now so I set up a grout container and went out to the garage and dug out some meal worms. They were frozen but started to thaw and wiggle around again by the time I got them to the brooder. It was so funny to see them trying to figure out what the heck those things are, the sudden realization that they are yummy treats, the game of chase, and the realization that other chicks toes are NOT meal worms lol

Anybody here anything on avian flu a friend in deleware heard from the deleware af center avian flu is coming are way and there were to no chickens at this years farm show

Ameraucanas are like easter eggers right? I have a couple of bantam EEs, really like them

Ameraucanas are what EEs are based on. They lay blue eggs and are good layers of medium-large eggs. They're known for being friendly and are good foragers. Rhodebars are also excellent layers and a bit more stocky than the ameraucanas. Most of the chicks that would hatch from my eggs would be ameraucana/rhodebar cross since my Rhodebar rooster seems to have a thing for my ameraucana hens and my ameraucana rooster likes my Rhodebar hen lol. I can't say how well the mix lays since I haven't grown any of them out yet but I know that individually, both breeds lay well. The Marans mixes also seem to be good layers. I have grown a few of them out.

In my understanding, an ameraucana x rhodebar chicken is an EE, and an ameraucana x Marans chicken is a Olive egger.

Most EEs and Olive eggers from hatcheries are ameraucana mix, rarely could be legbar mix.
