I set my eggs from @dheltzel today. First time that I've EVER had a full tray. This should be interesting at hatch time lol.

This officially puts my cabinet to over half full lol
WOW!

Quote: WOW!! I'm having some serious coop envy here!! Love the poop boards AND the ability to stand upright in the coop (my back KILLS me after cleaning coops). What a super set up, although chicks in the bedroom? you must be a heavier sleeper than I am.

YAYYY !!
My poor hatches the last 2 weeks are done with. Pulled 114 chicks already this morning, and there are at least a dozen more drying or nearly out.
Finally I can fill some orders - gonna have some happy customers soon.

We have several of the brooder pictured above. That was the first one we ever made. Since then we have modified it with a split roof, a door on the front of the run so the birds may free range when old enough. We also made the whole structure shorter (easier to reach eggs, chicks and chickens) and wider (more room in the run). We use these brooders to separate breeding pairs, to put brooder hens with their clutch and if we need a hospital or quarantine space it does the job too.

We start our chicks in a plastic tankard, at about a week or two we move them into a baby pool with poster board for sides (this one is pretty, most of mine are decorated with poop).

Hey there!! Are you in Chester County? I'm not far from West Chester, and would love to meet up with other chicken people.
Yes, West Chester and am always good for a a few hours of chicken talk. :) I love to see how others are doing things, what breeds of chickens they have and well . . . just about anything chicken related! Met a man in TSC last evening and got to talking chickens after we found out our mutual interest. What a great conversation.

And yes, I did walk out of TSC w/o too much temptation. Adorable chicks and even cuter ducks, but looking for other breeds right now, so saved a little $.

Great brooder set up, may be imitating that basic design for a couple of broody huts...we use the same kiddie pool, except ours is blue, lol, awesome for chicks when they need to be inside for some reason.

Thank you :) we purposely built it so we could stand up in it but we need some steps built to get in the side door. Hopping up in is getting a bit tough lol. I am a heavy sleeper, it's hubby that tends to have issues but it's usually with the light, not the noise. He's getting used to it though.

I'm loving you're little brooder/broody pens. I may have to copy cat a couple of them ;)

Too bad I was one week early. Any bielefelder this week?

For chick news, everyone is doing good. Brownie is no longer the smallest one, Penny the Welbar is, but she's happy and healthy. The CG blood must kicked in, Brownie start acting more skittish.
