Well, its worth a try!  The glass marbles stopped Hermione from pecking at Ginny's butt. I just made a nipple waterer for my little ones--can I just hang it? Will it sway when they peck it? I am also wondering, if I get another chick in a week or two would it be safe to keep her with slightly older chicks? What is a safe margin?

Thanks, I'll definitely give it a try. Brownie actually becomes worse tonight and pecked every single chick in my hand . She was willing to stay in my hands so other chicks couldn't get there.
I just hang the bottle of nipple waterer in their brooder. It wiggle a little bit when they peck it, but nobody mind at all.
It may not be safe to put young chicks directly in, because my chicks already tripled their sizes (except Penny ). Maybe you can try put a divider between them first ?

This is a great idea!  @Tilly, I think this would actually help deter the pecking of shiny things.  I know when we have an egg eater, we put porcelain eggs in the nest boxes ~ pecking something that hard deters the behavior.

She is REALLY growing on me.  I really hope she doesn't turn into a 'he' lol.

Thanks, good to know.

Fingers crossed for you special little one.

Chicks of different sizes and ages are tricky to house together if some are very young. When first hatched, even a few hours difference can be problem, but the older they get the less important a difference in age becomes. The best thing is to try it but be prepared to separate them for a time if there is a problem. For that reason you should get at least 2 new ones and some supplies in case you need to create a second brooder in a hurry.

I guess I have to find chicken sunglasses for the other 5 chicks.

I don't think they make pinless peeper for baby chicks.

Well:

One of my original girls (a buff orp) used to like to climb (out of the brooder) up my arm and sit on my shoulder....she pecked me twice in the eye before I learned to wear my glasses...

Well folks:

I have two maybe's in the incubator....they are in lockdown and have survived an eight hour power outage and one of the two lightbulbs burning out (wasn't enough to keep the 100 degrees for a few hours)....fingers crossed!!!

in other news, my baby roo screeched/crowed twice this morning(in the brooder).....they are somewhere around 6-7wks and will be moving to the garage with a heat lamp soon...now all I need is a long stretch of. warm weather???

Hopefully that means they will be hardy chicks!

I hope you get warm weather before he gets his voice figured out or you may be needing Tylenol and ear plugs for early mornings!

The tolbunts (I just looked it up lol) are beautiful! I really like them and the silver laced. These are white crested black polish. Not my picture, borrowed from Internet:

They look like so much fun!

Glad she is doing better
ditto @TillyPeeps

Next week is looking pretty good weather wise around here. Looks like we may even hit 70 degrees mid-week. My girls graduated to the garage brooder last week and are acclimating well. Maybe out to the coop for a week if the weather does turn out to be as nice as they are predicting and then open the coop up into the run the week after since they will hit the 8 week mark.
I am thinking even if the temps dip they should be ok since they will be fully feathered.

They garage temp is holding around 65 right now.

Hey, if anyone has any interest in ordering some chicks from Sandhill Preservation, could you PM me?
I'm not going to order a whole box of chicks for just the few I want, but I figure if someone else was thinking about it too, I would go in on an order with them.
