Possibly. We ordered all hens, coming on April 26th, but would like a roo with our flock, he would have 13 ladies all to himself!
Very true. I think the terms are used more or less interchangably, but still some people get a real "bee in their bonnet" if you use it "wrong". Lots of cuckoo/barred birds are not called either, like the California Greys and Scots Dumpies.I agree that cuckoo is a more accurate description of his appearance. ..but then again, one of the 'pure bred' Barred Rock hens we have is from a hatchery and looks more cuckoo than most Dominique do! LOL
My other BR hen is from show stock and the difference is night and day when you see them together!
What are you interested in? I have an "in" with Pughtown Agway and they order hatchery chicks to supplement what I hatch for them to sell. I could request they get what you are looking for and hold them for you.Well folks Today's news:
!0:00a this morning the fox came calling....tapped on the bathroom window and he moved off (over the fence) then circled back around....got to the shotgun and cracked the dining room window... the fox heard the window and decided to leave...took the dog out to make sure he wasn't circling back around again,,,what was interesting is that the fox was about 10yds from the pens, and the chooks saw him without making a sound...guess they are used to the dog running around.....
Also went to PickeringValley feed....1/2 of next week's 400 chicks are already spoken for and they don't have any breeds I am interested in....I am a bit frustrated that I cannot find chicks I am interested in,,,,(and they are not all that rare)....c'est la vie......
Also, all the chicks my old CCL roo sired wound up with varying amounts of baring.....(except the baby Orp mixes)
Hi. I'm Georgette and moved to Forest County from Beaver County a year ago. Got my chickens Friday.
New member from PA checking in. I'm from the Northwest, a little place called Greenville. Looking forward to sharing stories, pictures and comparing notes with everyone!
One more month and I will finally have my chicks from Meyer!!!! It has been killing me to see all the babies at TSC and not bring any home.....ok well thats the partial truth, I did bring 2 ducklings home......![]()
