In the beginning, they won't want to roost. After about a week, they can start to flutter, and should be able to get up onto an eight inch roost, I think. I know they can fly out of the bins at TSC at a week.

thanks Motorcyclechick...they just flew up on it, it is actually funny to watch a couple of them try and get up on it. I think they like the bigger box they are happily chirping away. They will be 3 weeks old on Tuesday, they are growing and feathering out quickly.

They're Pomeranian Goslings :) here's what I shared about them before and some pics.

Geez, I don't know if I said this before, but your geese are beautiful! I've only ever had swan geese. I have an African goose right now, I used to have two and lost one. I have a gander and a white Chinese goose coming for her in May :)

I would call it Cuckoo... and Ha! I hear ya on the 'attacked' thing.  Not on this thread though...but some others can be quite harsh. Some examples:

**Do NOT for one minute think that your EE is an Ameraucana   Did you buy it at a feed store??  Well, then it is nothing more than a glorified mutt.  And do NOT spell Americana with an 'I'.

**You MUST spell Marans with an 's' -even in the singular.  EVERY TIME or don't even bother to post.

lol oh yeah, there's a lil bit a crazy going on in the poultry world.  Helloooo people, they're chickens, get a grip.

I'm not one to attack over educate, but I understand the frustration behind it. It's difficult working so hard on a breed and showing it, and then competing against mutts constantly whenever you go to a show. Hell, one year at Allentown an obvious light brown leghorn was entered as a wheaten ameraucana. It feels like all your efforts into improving the breed and variety are all in vain all at once. It never happens with any of the other breeds, just this one due to the whole hatchery-caused misconception about what an Ameraucana is. I've talked numerous times on the subject at 4H and hope to talk about it at least once more this year to prevent misidentification at show, the subject was not only important to me, but was also important to Ms. Blum, who also bred Ameraucanas and cared deeply for exhibition. I also plan on purchasing a couple true Araucanas from a breeder I've been in frequent contact with, Jason, from harleysville area. The price is steep but I want to expose the club to this breed, as many of them have never seen a true Araucana before :)
I see no problem with being proud about the breed you care for the most and wanting to guard it's reputation, however I do agree that many go about it in the wrong way. Education should be enthusiastic, not aggressive. I do hope that one day Ameraucanas will not be regarded from some judges as a "Fad breed" and will be taken as seriously as the other breeds. After all, the phrase "There is no "i" in Ameraucana" was coined by well known breeder, Jean Ribbeck :D

My BCM babies from the beginning of the year are getting so big, so fast! Looks like I'm going to have a good choice of cockerels and still plenty of pullets :)

Moved 108 chicks out to brooders this evening. Quite a few more will need to come out tomorrow.
Candled eggs and found that some of the BCM eggs are fertile now! The new roo seems to be the ticket. Hopefully next week I will have BCM chicks.

So cute!

Yeah, the baby season is so exciting. Your new ducklings are extremely cute too.

Thank you

I thought Pekin ducklings are pure yellow. There is one having dark spot on her head?

Several do. It has me kinda worried, except...
A woman in the Pekin club was saying one of her new babies (she only got two) has a spot on its head. I have looked everywhere online, and this isn't a different breed. So, I am just assuming that it is genetics somehow showing through.

I can't imagine it is a mix since it did come from a hatchery. I plan on calling a few hatcheries, and getting their opinions. I have waited forever (okay, it feels like it!) for Pekins. It would really stink to end up with mixes after all.
