Ok another brooder question .....my 8 chicks,will,be 3 weeks on Tuesday when I clean there brooder I always put some of those doggie pee pads down then the pine shaving on top of them, the problem is as soon as they start scatching the pads or dug up moved all,around,so do I still need to put the pads down in my huge cardboard brooder.

I don't think cardboard will serve you very well.....chicks can be a bit messy and will spill water and peck at everything (including the pads)...they might even eat some....I use newspaper and a dog crate.....my two cents....

They are surprises! LOL
Rooster is a barred rock and hens are hatchery ameraucana (sp?) in multiple colors...none of them are lavender,gray or black...we didn't expect gray chicks but I'm tickled to have them!

Thanks, I was trying to get snaps of him kicking up the dirt when he decided to just take a snooze. He slept all of about 2 minutes and was up and about again. Lucky timing for me.

Yep, nothing seems to be following the 'normal' , guess that's both the fun of, and the curse of, mixing mutt genetics....there is no normal anymore!
