Checked on the babies this morning and everything is good.

I went out later last night with my flashlight and saw a pair of eyes shining back at me (and in the direction of our coop) about 20 yards(ish) away. The eye shine was wide, round, small and yellow - I watched it run off and it bounded a bit, so I'm wondering if it was just a cat...

Fisher Lady, I think I just want to move in so I can play with your chickens and dogs. I am even willing to bring an angora goat and a few fiber sheep. ;-)

Your pictures are just so idyllic and makes me want to get out of Suburbia and find our dream property ASAP!!

Thanks! We are lucky with the laid back group of critters for sure! Makes it hard to get work done when I would rather sit on the coop porch with a dog and just watch for a while!

Lost my the free rangers the other day, nothing left but feathers.

That sucks, I understand it is a risk with rural living and free ranging but doesn't make it sting any less....:hugs

I will. They have a few issues in their care, just like silkie  bantams. I got them because I thought it would be neat if silkies laid blue eggs (and hopefully more of them - our silkies spend about 80% of their life being broody)

I have 2 silkie mixes that lay colored eggs, one is light blue, the other is more seafoam green....we use the silkie eggs for pickled eggs usually, when they are actually laying that is, and not sitting on them brooding!

I hear that.  I've found piles of feathers twice in the last few weeks, oddly... no birds are missing.  I have no idea what happened, but in my head, it goes like this:  'fox grabs bird, bird squawks.  Bella to the rescue!'.  I have no way of knowing for sure, but it sure makes me smile.  My Bella's been pretty sick, some kind of tick born illness.  She's on antibiotics and has a limp.  Poor girl.

Hope the illness clears up quick, i hate when dogs aren't feeling good.

Glad Bella is there to the rescue! I hope she feels better here in a couple days. Is it Lyme disease? My mom's dog has it. He rarely has flare ups now bit it was scary at first.

Definitely scary...glad your mom's dog has improved!
