That was a really long time ago. I'm surprised that you ferment that lol.

A millions dollars worth of nickel knowledge!

Ok you asked about introducing with the ducks. I don't know how it goes with chickens so I don't have a comparison, but what I have seen so far is the little ones want to be with the big ones and the big ones kinda just keep walking/ running away for a bit then the big ones will settle a little and turn and peck toward the little ones like to tell them to leave and they don't mostly there is no real hurting but they will sometimes pick one out for some reason and pick on it and that you have to be very careful of, but mine only have gotten supervised visits in the more neutral yard. I also noticed as much as the big ones act like they can't be bothered if the little ones get scared or the big ones see birds circling they bring them over to me and stand there like fix it Mum hahaha. They won't be penned together till they are close to the same size though I may be over protective lol. I live outside of Erie. Where are you?

I am at the other end of the state. Bucks county, right outside of philly. You are really the opposite corner of the state! :D

Howdy!

Glad you got that resolved. You spend so much time on your flocks, does your wife recognize you when you come in the house anymore?

Do you still have any Biele's left? I definitely want some for my future coop, but that will probably be 3 months away. Hopefully I can have a breeding trio or so. I don't care if they are fertile eggs for a broody (fingers crossed), chicks or adults.
Definitely getting rid of all the Rhodebars soon, but keeping the Biels for a while longer. Hoping for improved hatchability over the next few months. I have a few young ones growing out for this fall/winter. I will get you eggs or chicks sometime, and let you know before I sell them all so you can get some eggs or chicks.

They have to compete with the Welbars and so far are coming in a distant second in every way except for being better known. I just setup a secondary breeding pen of Welbars with 2 roos and 22 pullets all around POL. If they start to produce like the older group, they will be my main dark egg layer and all the others will be "by request only". I love the way Welsummer birds look, but I get nearly as many eggs and chicks from my 7 Welbar pullets as I do from my 20+ Welsummer breeders. Some days the 7 Welbars outlay the Welsummers and Marans combined. I can't wait to see how the new group does. They are in a portable hoop coop on grass, I hope that makes the quantity and quality of the eggs even better.

Just to be clear, chick five is fine today. I haven't seen anyone looking odd as they ran around.
Chick six is alive, and seems better now that she's in the brooder and fluffed. Quite lazy, but it's moving around. I did give it Nutri drench. I expect it to be fine tomorrow. Heck, number five took a day.
