Definitely getting rid of all the Rhodebars soon, but keeping the Biels for a while longer. Hoping for improved hatchability over the next few months. I have a few young ones growing out for this fall/winter. I will get you eggs or chicks sometime, and let you know before I sell them all so you can get some eggs or chicks.
They have to compete with the Welbars and so far are coming in a distant second in every way except for being better known. I just setup a secondary breeding pen of Welbars with 2 roos and 22 pullets all around POL. If they start to produce like the older group, they will be my main dark egg layer and all the others will be "by request only". I love the way Welsummer birds look, but I get nearly as many eggs and chicks from my 7 Welbar pullets as I do from my 20+ Welsummer breeders. Some days the 7 Welbars outlay the Welsummers and Marans combined. I can't wait to see how the new group does. They are in a portable hoop coop on grass, I hope that makes the quantity and quality of the eggs even better.
Nothing like waking up sick in the middle of May with snow falling all aroundThis has the makings of a rough day. I have to trust DH and DS to get the flock taken care of for me. They don't know what all needs done. Definitely going to be interesting.
I'm so sorry you are sick!
I noticed the white stuff too.![]()
Wow! It's chilly here this morning, but in the 40's so no chance of snow.
I hate being sick, not the feeling bad physically, but feeling bad because the people and animals that depend on my are being "let down" by my inability to perform my duties. I suppose the alternative, not having anyone or any birds care if you show up or not, would be much worse.
