e My broodies are on day 14 and 8. Should be ready to go into a coop without heat by the time they are two or three weeks old.

I have never bought meat birds from Myers however in March I did but 8 layers and so far so good they will be 16 weeks old Tuesday. I did end up with two roosters bUT thathe did not bother me as I traded both for other layers. Myers was very good to deal with.

So I got two 11 week old NHR girls to rebuild my flock (had a straight-run of 9 Silkies and wound up with 8 boys) it's been 2 weeks and they seem to be getting along with my 15 week old Silkie girl nicely. A couple abnormalities though...
My Silkie (Tiny) seems to be quite protective of them - cuddling/guarding them at night and staying inside the coop with them the majority of the day. When I go out, they generally come out to eat (I have left a chick waterer inside the coop just to insure that they're staying hydrated) but will flutter back inside rather than explore the exterior enclosure. I'm thinking this is maybe just because the NHR were indoor barn-kept with similar ages (but mixed breeds) and they're used to being inside, and my Silkie girl was originally the smallest and stayed inside away from the boys.
I've also seen the smaller NHR (the one spotted with black feathers) have watery poops, which I know can be because of heat and it has been hot, but I feel it's too often to just be heat related. They've had organic raw unfiltered ACV in their waterers since day 1 here. So maybe it's a combo of the heat and potential stress/adjusting from moving? Or should I give her meds? It's like chick diarrhea...
She also chirps a lot, like baby chicks would. She gets food and water, I let them out for a bit of supervised grazing each day (I'm still warming up to letting them out...) so I'm not sure if maybe she needs something I'm not providing?
Other than those things (which may just be me over-worrying) they're doing very well together.

I did pretty good at the swap this morningI unloaded about 9 roosters, none of which should be getting eaten (for a while anyway), 7 turkey poults, and 4 hens. I did come home with 2 blue silkies though. Overall, feeling pretty good about it
If you end up with a blue roo of those silkies I might be interested.

I would not be concerned with them staying inside right now, that could just be fear. They will get over it.
As far as the poop is concerned, if they've been outside they could have already picked up worms I guess. So, I would suggest checking their stool for worms. I don't really think that is what it is, but that is all I can think of.

Thanks @MotorcycleChick! I have been checking poop (and looking at poop charts) and I haven't seen anything alarming.
Okay, I thought of something else. If they drink too much water, or there's too much ACV in the water.

Hmm maybe I should get rid of the chick waterer inside the coop and force them to the big one out in the enclosure? I only put about a teaspoon of ACV in each.
