Te puke, bay of plenty. You?

Welcome to BYC! I'm sure you aren't the only one from New Zealand, you just have to find where they are hiding here on the site :p

One more week. I have all those eggs looking good, and in one more week we will see what I get.
:gig I am so afraid I might get 20 chicks.

20 chicks just means a better chance to pick 3 or 4 breeders you like....glad they are developing.

I have one small hen, but honestly it is very rare for us to see an abnormally small pullet. I wouldn't expect it to effect their eggs/chicks but since you will be picking your favorites out of the next hatch also you can sell the two smaller ones as eggers and not have to worry about it.

Oh! I somehow didn't say. I do have a cockerel that looks good for breeding. The ducks are beginning to mingle together, and the SPR chicks are separating from Christopher and Banti. They will come near me now, and I am able to get a good look at them. I am happy with the largest girl, and I am wondering if I should only keep her and the good looking boy from that hatch (reality is that I will be selling some birds)? I know the other two girls had a hard hatch, but they still haven't caught up.
So I now have a question.  Will the small girls have daughters that are a normal size, or will the daughters be small too?

The girls will catch up. Penny used to be far behind other girl and sick, now she is my second biggest hen and early layer.

You can just put up a "for sale" sign, and leave the eggs outside in a cooler with price on it. That's how the farm near me does, and they have a pretty good business.

Is that possible that a Rhodebar lays dark brown eggs? I saw Ruff-Ruff the Rhodebar and Brownie running out of the coop and both were singing egg songs. I went to check and found two warm eggs in the nesting boxs: one is a dark brown peewee egg and the other is large size blue! The large blue one has slightly lighter color than Dolly's eggs, so it may be Brownie's first egg (double yolk?). The dark brown one is the same as yesterday's. Could it come from Ruff-Ruff instead of my Welbar girl Penny? But Rhodebar should lay cream color eggs.

Well, I'm down to 7 eggs under the broody girls. One of their eggs got crushed. It's a good thing I checked though. Ana was starting to get stinky because of it but wasn't at that nasty point yet.
