They look exactly like the pure Legbars, I have no idea which hen is laying the olive eggs. Olive eggs are always quite variable. They often have darker spots typical of Welvummers, but not always. A few were even closer to grey than olive in color.

Thank you so much for the reply! This thread moves so quickly I had to go back several pages to find it! Gray eggs sound interesting--I don't think I would mind getting some of those. :)

:thumbsup Good job!
I have some Welsh Harlequins growing out. Anne often gets eggs from me, sometime I'll just tell her all I have are duck eggs to put under her broody hen. :lau
I forgot you had them.

Well I get back from my grams to help them look for a dog and the first hen I have ever had who I mentioned had got the egg stuck and survived well a few days ago she released another egg and was still eating and drinking but now today she has not ate or drunk anything and is very weak and can barely stand. I honestly don't know if she will make it through the night.

I just hope she doesn't die in pain.

You can hang out here, no problem. I grew up outside of Uniontown and New Windsor (Wyatt224 will know those towns, I'm sure). I still go back a few times a year to see relatives.

I hope you can find a place for him. I have too many roos also. Sometimes I find an ad on Craigslist works, but charge at least $5. If you list him for free, you will get some people responding you probably don't want to meet in person.
i hope you find a home too, ....but *dheltzel.....your comment to craigs- list made me laugh

peaches waiting to be canned...Ana seems excited about it...
they had to be picked. We started to have a pest issue. better to pick and save the harvest, let them finish ripening in safety.
we had harvested approx. 5+ bushels( well over 400) of peaches this year...

.
Hoping next year will fair as well...

the tree without any fruit...still looks like it's been through a tussle.
Ana...she wore out watching everybody else today...

this is my first year growing kale. Does anyone have any experience with this veggie?...I was told that it comes back the next year on it's own...like a perennial. Is this correct?

I have been putting it in my vegetable broth. I just cook the heck out of extra veggies and scraps from cooking.(i freeze), then pour through a strainer, put into containers and freeze. Can't wait to get a pressure caner so I can the broth. Will save tons of room in the freezer. Broth is a main staple in my diet. Anything I can add to it to make it "super food" is always welcome!

this is how we saved our strawberry crop. a couple birds had still managed to get in..
idunno.gif
, no idea how. one actually got stuck in the fencing. I had to untangle it to get it free. Interestingly, there were no more birds after that!
eventually they will spread to the adjacent bed, making our netting tent even more interesting.

Thank you for letting me take up space guys!! Hope everyone had a great day too!
It would be nice if we could get a bit of rain tomorrow

.....the local townships here are going to have a special meeting to talk about the water issue(s)....most likely will mean more $$ out of everyone's pocket. I do realize it is very hard for small townships to make it happen for their areas...with so little help from the state.
okay, going to keep it vanilla and not talk politics!!

Kale is an annual, like most vegetables (asparagus, rhubarb and many herbs being the most common exceptions). It is possible for it to self-seed and have a perpetual bed that way. Most likely the confusion is because it is very winter hardy. If you plant it in the fall (early Sept is ideal in PA) it will develop quite nicely and you can harvest through much of the winter and spring. In the spring it will grow like crazy, trying to get a lot of energy so it can flower and set seed. If you keep cutting it back, it will keep trying until it gets too warm, then it gives up and grows what little blooms it can before it expires. Spinach is exactly the same, and lettuce can sometimes make it through the winter, esp if protected well. If you want suggestions about protecting it over the winter, let me know.

Which one is Molly? I have some Olive Eggers (look like legbars and are in the same pen) that lay a grey egg every now and then. At least I think that is what is going on, perhaps it's a regular CCL hen that produces that color. It's not really green to me, so maybe it's blue with extra "bloom" coating, like the occasional Welsummer egg I find with a pink overtone.

If she produces that color consistently, you really have something special. I've gotten maybe 3 or 4 all year from my flock.

Molly is the olive egger girl. I'll find out what of all of her eggs like soon. Yesterday was a long for me to drive to Skaneateles for apt hunting. Luckyly I find a very nice one. There was a woman there keeping more than 20 large fowl chickens and ducks in a tiny 4 x 4 coop and a 5 x 4 run. Those poor birds have no room to move. I tried to talk to her nicely, but she's rude.

TillyPeeps, I would love to see that gray egg, too!

Ok, I don't have my camera now because hubby took it to work and never got it back. If he can remember to bring it back today, I'll let everyone see the egg. I expected her to lay olive, green, or blue eggs, but grey egg is really surprising.
