Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

wow, it is so hard to breathe outside!!

Really dislike having to be in the AC so much, but there is noway to deal with that oppressiveness outside!

***LearninMyFlock**- made up a bunch of sauerkraut jars last night...looks good!! Now just hoping I did everything correctly and we end up with some goodness inside!

About how long do you usually let them develop? Is there anything I should look for to help clue me in?..tips/tricks..
Thank you for sharing this process, this is so much easier than 'babysitting' kraut with the other methods and it is not cooked-off so it has kept all the "good" things it has developed while curing! Really hope this works!!

also finished up the last of the peaches...it is a bitter- sweet thing.
We will enjoy the prepared peaches throughout the winter months!!

thelma & louise came over to me for their morning "pets"...Louise 'hunkered down' her back side...wondering if that means she is getting close to egg laying. They are both 13 weeks today, was thinking that was a bit young to start that..but what do i know?
idunno.gif

They are getting along well enough with the other girls, not too much picking. The only one they have any issue with is KFC, she is not nice..well, she is just not a very nice chicken in general, but she lays, so...i think she is just really trying to make sure she stays were she is at on the totem pole. They are bigger than she is, if they get tired of her attitude...."lets get ready to rumble"...

that's what i was thinking/hoping, but 13 weeks...wow.
They are my first hatchery birds...is 'early' laying typical?...maybe a breed thing?...or both..ahaha..guess i am just used to my wyandottes...they take FOREVER to do anything!!!..except run to the food bowl!
D.gif

For those of you that use chicken feet for stock do you peel them first or just wash them and use as is?
never used the feet..i know i should use everything
hide.gif
..., but i have seen more people 'peel' them before they used them.

My hatchery birds all depended, but 16 weeks to -the-day was common. They can squat a month or so before they lay. Let's think about our bodies. We can have our cycles as early as nine, twelve is typical. Cramps come a week early for some, two weeks for others, and on time for still others. Then there are those that don't ever get them. This is squatting IMO.
Edited because Duckling just left for a few hours, we had a stressful morning, and I am into the Fireball already.

I'm in shock! My DH just gave me the name and number of a client he found out had goats. Told me to give them a call today. I wasn't sure he would ever want goats! I'll have this acreage filled up so fast... I'll probably wait until spring and get some kids.

)...lots of food..should be real nice. If the kids don't have the energy to take her, DH & I will, although I think they have plans to...I already told DD that I would give her a 'dish-to-pass' so she doesn't have to worry about. Might as well use the casseroles we spend all that time making

...easy peasy!!

How are your birds holding up in this heat??..not so much the heat, the humidity!!!...feels like you'll melt out there, while being suffocated by an elephant!!

The girls are walking around with their tongues hanging out

...okay, i am just kidding...they have holes dug to China and are sitting in the shade, they look as comfortable as a chicken could be in this ...until we walk over and they think they are getting something and start going berserk
