I just went out to collect eggs, and came across this

It looked to me like a terrifying amount of feathers. Now, my girls spend the majority of their day in the brush eating bugs and undegrowth, and the feathers didnt look like the coordinate with my hens, but i got my bag of goodies and called the girls out anyways. Everyone is there, no one is injured.

Do these look like chicken feathers or not?

Is this indeed a scary amount of feathers , or not?

Glad your chickens are ok...

I would say a bird (possibly a grouse) lost a battle with a hawk... color is hard to judge by looking at individual feathers, an ID could probably be done by gathering the biggest flight feathers and lining them up to show pattern and color of a wing.

My husband has informed me he wants to put a live feed camera in our chicken coop so we can watch the chickens all the time. For someone that said the chickens were my project and that he would help when needed he sure is getting into this raising chickens thkng! <3

They are addicting! We have a Qsee system we can watch on a monitor or on a smartphone. Incredible to watch and learn chicken behaviors when people aren't around.

My hubby suggested something very similar the other day!! Hey, it is getting dark and cooler more quickly these days. When it becomes too chilly and dark to sit and watch from the coop/run itself, we can just turn on the TV and continue viewing!!

That is a scary amount of feathers, and they do look like chicken feathers to me (at least by color/pattern--can't tell size, etc.). A pile of feathers like that is almost never good news, so I'm glad all your chickens are ok. Do you have one (or more) molting? And/or fighting? I have a lot of feathers around my yard at the moment because I have a combination of a couple hens molting, and mixing the new pullets in with the older flock, so they are getting picked on a bit. None of them have individually lost enough feathers to notice, but most (all) of them have lost a few beakfuls once or twice. But your feathers are all in one spot, and seem to be all the same color/pattern, so I would guess molting or a wild bird death.
