Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hahaha. But I don't want chicks at this time of year!! I'm going to Peru on vacation and then Florida for the winter for work. NO CHICKS little miss Newah! I will break your broodiness!!

Give her eggs before you leave for Peru, she'll take care of them and hatch them and by the time you leave in winter, her babies will be growing well and under control. All taken care of by mama ;)

Ok another question has come up, I just seem to be full of them this week!

I am glad you guys are awesome and answer them for me :)

Picked up my fiance at 6pm, he told me there was a blue egg laying in the run area in the mud, I was excited because that means my EE is starting to lay, although the dummy needs to pick a nest box apparently. Anyways, he of course wouldnt pick it up because it was muddy and he doesnt prefer to get dirty. Anyways, at 7:10 we got home and I went to close the coop, and the egg was gone. gone gone. not broken, just missing. all chicken safe inside, even though the coop was open until we got back. What the heck eats a whole egg, by carrying it off and not breaking it to eat?

As a side note, we have had duck eggs dissapear as well in the past during the day. There is the AM and gone in PM.

Any thoughts???????

Your chickens may have stepped on it and broke it open. Once open, they would've devoured every little piece of it. Possibility or maybe a snake came and ate it.

X2,
In order of my suspicion level...
1...other chickens
2...dog
3...snake
4...other critter such as possum, weasel, or coon...though they would rarely come into the yard during daylight hours to get it.

The others have answered the same as I would have. Ask all the questions you wan though!

War with broody-I blocked her nest box off with a log. She did spend more time outside today but then picked a different box. I kicked her multiple times through out the day (today is my day off.)
Just went to close up the coop. Kicked her out of the nesting box and put logs in the other 5 boxes...I mean business!! She just laid on the coop floor

. So I picked her up and set her on a roost. Will check later to see if she has nested on the floor again. So far she is winning the war...this has been going on almost two weeks!
Just let her sit for a while, give her some golf balls to keep warm and pull any real eggs at least once a day. After a few weeks she may give up, or at least be easier to break. In the mean time, remember this is "fun" for her, it makes her feel she has a special purpose, so let her have that for a while.
