Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Haha. The good thing about that is that I have enough now, that if I got a few more, the hubs probably wouldn't notice... I think I only have one Biele, and I only have one of the Legbar or Wellbar. I'll see how many bags I think I need and let you know if I can stop by.

Edited to add:

Dheltze, here is the girl I only have one of, what kind is she? Her face and wattles are getting pretty red. Turkeys love blackberries apparently! Check out this action shot!

And one more image of Rusty because he's such a handsome teenager. He's about the size of the chicken in question above already!

That's a welbar girl. You will want more for dark eggs.

Thanks! I knew it was some type of bar girl! She is lovely already! :D

Good evening all:

Had a visit from the fox this evening....and I was home and never herd a thing(because I was home, I let them free range).....all the big girls/boys are intact....the four young ones were taken,,,,found a feather pile for the CCL girl and found the desiccated body of one of the OE roos....the two others are MIA....knowing this fox, they are gone too but, I will be up early in case 'he' comes back for the last carcass...I've lost the entire year's youngin's to the fox....only Anne has a few I gave her to re-populate her crew....really disappointing.....

So sorry Stake, do you want the three of them back so you can have a few new layers?

New to BYC and chickens. From Pittsburgh and would really love to find chicks from a breeder of true Ameraucanas in PA. Any suggestions?

Auroradream26 has some true ameraucanas and is not too far from you, but I don't know if she has any chicks now. Of course, the official PA chicken dealer dheltzel always has some good quality ameraucanas in many colors: lavender, black, wheaten, etc. He even has silkie ameraucanas and bantams. He's at Pottstown though, but you may get some chicks from him via chicken train.

I have young breeding flocks of these colors/type of true Ameraucanas:
Black
Lavender
Silver
Bantam Lavender
Silkied Lavender

I'm near Philly, but sometimes we can get chicks moved around the state via friends. @Auroradream26 has Lavenders (regular and silkied) and hopefully will have chicks sometime too.

That really stinks. You have lost so many birds to the fox. Maybe only free range when dogs outside?

Oh yeah, I forgot the Wheatens. Not as many of them. Thanks for reminding me of what chicken breeds I have, LOL
I won't have eggs or chicks for a while.

Obviously, I cannot have any roo now. But hubby said he may let me have a roo if we have a large lot. I'm thinking a bielefelder roo, because they are big and calm. Did you have any aggressive bielefelder roo?
I've only had 2 and they were the model of calmness. Big teddy bears, basically. Rhodebars roos are similar. Both breeds are large enough they could really hurt if they attacked. The Legbars, OTOH, are much more likely to challenge me, but small and light enough it is almost comical to watch them try.

My Ameraucana roos have always been well mannered too, and so handsome. They take extraordinary care of their ladies.

Anne:

A very nice offer, but keep your chooks safe Rusty and the girls...I'll get through the molt and hatch some more.....its just what it is.....

Great! If I can get a big piece of lot, I may just take a couple lavender ameraucanas. I always wanted them, but I wasn't allowed to have a roo. Is a bantam roo less loud?
