She is eating and drinking thankfully. The leg is the right one. She will keep extended but there don't appear to be any lacerations or breaks. Should I blukote it anyway?
Also her cape? Looks more and more like hackles?? Is she really a roo you think? I don't really get to hold the babies much since they are 16weeks and run from me. But this accident gave me a good opportunity to check her out. Chicka might have to be "Chuck" :)

You obviously took great care of her! :thumbsup How old is she now?

Thank you :) I THINK she's around 18-20 weeks old now? Maybe?

I wouldn't worry about blue kote if there are no cuts or lacerations. I had to blue kote Queenie because she had a section of scales ripped off. I think she looks like a pullet. I don't see any obvious saddle feathers.

Anne:

I set them out for a couple of hours (air cell up).....to come up to room temp then in the bater....(off today).....

Auro:

Sad to hear....this happens more often than you think....he'll probably be replaced with a H1B.....

I know it does. It's such a sad situation. Apparently, the company he worked for has been caught in a scandal and resulting series of lawsuits. I guess they're trying to cut corners and save money now.

When I came home last night, I found 3 eggs waiting for me! I have 3 girls laying now!

congratulations! That's awesome :)

I'm having a tough time with my little silkie's eggs. Maybe I'm just not meant to hatch them. Out of the 3 I set last week, only one is developing and out of 3 that she laid this week, I only have one to show for it. I accidentally cracked one and she broke the one that was there this morning. I added some extra oyster shells in with her feed this morning, maybe that will help but I'm only keeping those two seperated until Sunday. Whatever eggs I get from her by then are it. I want those two back in with the flock for the rest of winter to keep warm.

I'm getting anxious for my silkie x Showgirl eggs that are supposed to come this week. They should be here either today or tomorrow. Of course, we're supposed to have freeing weather and snow :/ Hopefully it all works out though.

GM all:

Getting chilly out there.....

Anne, I have not had girls laying and have only had 1 egg in about 2mos.....go figure....

Auro, if my hatch goes well, I might have some extras to swap.....(though I never expect good hatches).....

last winter I traded off coffee cans of water, this year I want to try for some kind of heater waterer. Has anyone use fish tank heaters to keep the waterer from freezing//?

There's a nice looking biscuit tin in my office that a colleague brought back from travels. The biscuits are going down gradually. Once they're gone I'm going to cut a round hole in the side, install an incandescent light bulb and test its ability to heat a bucket of water on top.

Get this, it's worth every penny: http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/farm-innovators-round-heated-pet-bowl-6-qt
This heats more efficiently than the metal pans with light bulbs under them (direct heat to the water, less wattage and better heating). It is also much safer in wet areas (water and electricity don't mix well).

TSC has 10% off coupons sometimes and even a 15% off "friends and family" coupon a few times a year. Or you can get the same thing for about the same price from Amazon, eBay or Jeffers.
