You guys are forgetting the cardinal rule of chicken math... Roosters don't count, neither do chicks, neither do young pullets that haven't started laying, or older hens who don't eat much or lay, or eggs in the incubator...
Fluffy butt, I think you came to the bar instead of the AA meeting.![]()
Edited for spelling.
Holy cow, 300 is impressive! I hope for 100 someday. How do you care for them all and keep the living quarters clean to avoid any devastating illnesses? That's what I worry about the most.Has he come to dread the Annual Chicken Pickup?
People ask me how many chickens I have and I kind of shrug and say "about 300". They gasp and move away in case it is contagious.
A single turkey will flock with the chickens, and sometimes even become their protectors. If handled a lot (and they are darn hard to resist as babies) they become "puppy dog tame". Even if not handled they are very personable. The first poult I ever hatched is a Midget White tom named Pilgrim (he is my avatar). He roams around the farm greeting people and strutting to show off. I can hug him easily and even pick him up. When I put him down, he doesn't run away like any chicken would, but struts around like he enjoyed it. Once I was talking and ignoring him and he came up and stepped on my foot to let me know he was not going to be ignored. Never had a chicken do that.Want to talk hubby into a heritage breed.
