Anyone know of a local source for Lavender Orpingtons? I met a poultry entrepreneur at the Farm to Table event in Pittsburgh last weekend who was pretty excited about my chicken train hobby. I told him I'd email dheltzel's website to him, but he is also interested in finding some lavender orpingtons.

The few people I know with Lavender Orps are only hatching a few and always sold out. Some places sell them (and Lavender Ameraucanas) for as much as $50 a chick.

Yeah, he showed me a pullet priced at $100... I couldn't believe it. Orpingtons are pretty popular, right? And they come in so many colors. Is the lavender really hard to breed?

One of my hens came from CC on here (is he still on byc? his username didn't seem to pop up when I started writing it out)... she is a blue/lavender with a gold head/neck. I wonder if he ever gets any pure lavender

Do you have mallard babies? Would love to see your Ducks!

No mallard babies yet. I thought I had 2 mallard drakes and a Mallard female but the boys are actually snow something call ducks but I still believe she's a Mallard. So I'll probably end up with some mallard mixes soon with all the Muscovy girls I have!

Any ideas?

My guess is an EE for the first one. Probably mixed with the FBCM to get feathered feet.

I can NOT sleep! Heard coyotes VERY close to my home Monday Night and I keep thinking I'm going to wake up to a catastrophe. My hoop coop is not secure, my heard Queen "Lily' is going to kid very soon, and our pup, Mark is no match for a coyote... We keep locking Mark inside, and keeping Bella with the goats, but I just don't think she could take on a pack. Is it too early for wine?

My daughter manipulated this picture of Mark...

That picture is awesome!

It's never too early for wine when you need a glass. Hopefully, tonight the coyotes will have moved on and you can get some good sleep.
