Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Haha. Typo there!

I had to bring my poor little Ruby Broody girl in the house. I went and checked on her and the turkeys were still being jerks. They had pecked the back of her neck clean and they would draw blood next. So I brought her inside. I will return her in a day or so when it warms up and they all can go outside.

For now. She is screaming in a critter carrier. I tried to put her in with the injured chicken, but the injured one started attacking her. That is excellent though, that the injured on still has that much fight in her. So, I will keep them separated.

@Auroradream26 Have you been keeping your coop closed

My coop is always open to the run but the run is filled with straw and wrapped in plastic so it's about the same temp inside the coop and outside in the run. I keep the run door closed up tight though.

Unfortunately, when I secured my coop yesterday morning, one of my Bielefelder girls must have snuck out without me noticing. I found a couple of piles of feathers this morning. I’m sure it was the fox, and I spoke to the hunter today. Because we don’t have any open fields, he feels trapping would be better in our situation. He will call a fiend who does that, thankfully.

I'm so sorry :(

I had to bring two chickens in for a little bit today. One legbar boy was dealing with some serious frostbite on his comb and a welbar hen had a bad case of bumblefoot. I got them both treated and sent back out. Hopefully they'll be ok but the boy is definitely going to be dubbed for spring :/

So this happened.

Wonder how much alcohol chickens can tolerate... I think about 5% solution should reduce freezing by a couple of hours, but the drunk chickens may be a bit hard to listen to! :lau

The compost heaters are looking more and more likely for next year... if I had a good source for fresh manure we would probably start one now, but the heated dog bowls will work for this season, I guess.

Try a metal bowl, and a ping-pong ball. I've heard the ball delays the water from freezing over. I should get a ball for mine but I just dump out the ice and refill the bowl twice a day. My chickens have been on strict lockdown for about 2 weeks now. The weather has been unusually harsh here, though it should warm up soon :fl

I can’t wait for the weather to break!!!! Oatmeal every morning for the flock. Thank goodness for heated waters for chickens and goat.

Taking care of my horse has been rough. We have been using a bucket heater that drops into the bucket to help warm water and de-ice frozen water. There is a leak somewhere under ground and we are trying to conserve water at the barn as the two wells kept running dry. They think they have the lines shut off to where the leak is.
The other horse’s haven’t been out for the last three days which just makes life double hard in this weather. There are like 30 horses on the farm. Team work is the key to caring for them in this weather. I pay for full care but I’m there twice a day to help. I would have anxiety if I wasn’t lol
