Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Yeah, I think we have some paint laying around. Deck stain sounds much better though so I may buy that. Hubby just saw it this morning. He may have brought home the stuff for me but didn't really expect me to put this together lol. He just looked at me and said what's that for and where is it going. He's not thrilled lol. He just doesn't get it.

Adorable!

Speaking of husbands not being thrilled... a friend helped me load my truck with awesome pallets yesterday. Some of them have plywood, and as such are pre made walls! He has to help me unload this tomorrow.

Peep show! 20 was the final count. I think we can deduce that the small black ones were fathered by an Ayam Cemani roo that he had. Lol. :lau

He was hoping for some Polish mixes from his main roo, but I don't think that happened.

Possible AC/CCL mix (or straight AC)

A look into the heating pad tunnel. They always love it, and they are so much quieter!

That's what I do. A nice warm bath usualy does the trick :)

Thank you! I did give her a bath and it seems to have done the trick. She was so crunchy!

Here is her stuck in the shell, after I had assisted. She had started zipping when I checked in about 9 a.m. At 7 p.m. when I got home, she was still stuck and screaming. What a fighter!

@dheltzel know anybody with those breeds out your way?

If you find some, you should join us for the Easter hatch a long. Official set date is match 10th.

So I got the run framed in today. It won't take much more to get it together.

But now I need some opinions. Do I keep the top open and put a sheet of metal roofing across the top, angled of course (which I'm not quite sure how to attach)

IMG_20180216_154542.jpg

Or do I put this last sheet of plywood on here as a roof and hardware cloth the entire run and roof which would be super easy.

Thoughts, opinions?

So the weather was AMAZING today! To the point where I had almost forgotten about putting the chickens in for the night... oops. Thankfully everyone is safe and sound inside. I did just realize something rather important however....

... I don't know how to sex Ameraucanas! They're about 8 weeks old now and I haven't spent much time with them (or let them outside yet, we're still building the run) so I have no literal clue. They are getting much bigger now and looking great with their muffs and beards but I know that doesn't help me in the long run.

Oh man, GOOD LUCK. They are incredibly hard to sex. We have our Ameraucana roo and I so badly wanted him to be a girl for pretty eggs, but alas... When I got him and he started growing both my fiancée and his dad kept saying "Yup that's a rooster" and I was in denial.

Here's Oreo:

Here he is yesterday :love He'll be 1 year old in a few weeks.

When he was growing up I was told to look at his comb for signs of male/female. His legs were noticeably thicker and had larger feet, his feathers were more pointy than what I saw on my other hens. He also did what I call the 'periscope' (keeping his neck stretched up) very often. Like I said... DENIAL. :gig

I would suggest posting to the gender forum - or more specifically an Ameraucana forum and see what others think!
