Troyer, I spoke too soon. I need to keep the Lav Am roo. And, judging by the feathers now, he is a roo. Fred died. I think he may have been internally injured by the pup. No wounds that I could see but he was just not right the day before he passed. Has anyone ever rehabilitated a dog once they've killed chickens? I really don't want to have to reconfigure the whole back yard so the surviving 10 birds have a big enough place to stay penned up. I like being able to give them room.

Also, Ameracauna roo over brown layer hens equals easter eggers? Jaebels is a olive egg layer - daddy was the blue marans and mama was ameracauna. She's the only one laying now.

Bottom line, yes. I believe it’s easier than rehabilitation for a mean rooster. And more effective than the murderers in prison.
If it was just an accident, it could never happen again.
Holding the birds, and petting the dog often might get it through the dog’s head.
1 million years ago, people also tied the dead chicken around the dog’s neck. However, that went out with rubbing their nose in an accident.

I did hear about the dead chicken around the neck thing. Ewww. It was not an accident. I think I can use the older girls to be calm with him. It will take a lot of work. I guess we'll just need to add that to the training schedule.

We have new year's babies peeping in the Bator this morning! So far there's 12 quail, 3 or 4 BCM, and 5 or 6 F2 OE :)
Happy New year!
I spent the morning doing some separating. I moved the CX outcrosses to a pen to try to get some eggs before I process the boys and in another, I put the silkie feathered lav ameraucanas and a black show girl. I'm going to try to make some blue egg laying lavender show girls. I know it will take a few generations but wish me luck!
